Different Season, Same Ol Meta

I’m sure this has already been discussed at length within the forums, but I’m watching The Great Push and I can’t help but to notice – yet again – that the comp meta continues to comprise of the same classes/specs. Of course, a different class/spec may get to shine every once in a while for a short period of time, but compared to other classes and specs it pales in comparison.

It gets really old seeing the same comps ad nauseum every MDI or The Great Push. Meta comp then bleeds into live where your average Joe player is rejected or accepted into a group depending on what class or spec they play, even in low keys where it just simply does not matter. Inb4 the train of “MAKE YOUR OWN GROUP, THEN!” hits the track: It. Does. Not. Matter. People leave as soon as they see a non-meta class or spec in the group. The reality is that the balance in this game does not exist and it’s making the game cookie cutter and impossible to play unless you reroll to FOTM.

I thought that I had heard at some point that Blizzard was planning to help mitigate meta comps by bringing class/spec-specific utility to other classes and specs. There just hasn’t been enough of that in my opinion. Is this just never going to get fixed? Are we doomed to reroll to FOTM until the end of WoW while watching some specs and classes get no love?

Wasn’t the first iteration of new M+ affixes in T-Dubs aimed at this?
You can see how well that went.

What would your proposal be, then, if certain classes and specs keep being brought to content because they’re never not meta? Should everyone just be expected to reroll to FOTM?

Anyone trying to be the literal 0.1% (title cutoff) or especially the 0.0001% (TGP/MDI)?

Yes

My opinion: don’t watch them and Blizz should stop trying to make this game an e-sport.

Balancing for s4 M+ was a joke and they still need to address augmentation for next expansion in all content. The balance in the game exist but there are definitely worse seasons than others.

To some point there will always be a meta so yea if your goal is to be fotm then you’ll have to reroll to it but if you’re pugging and not meta you can most of the time simply tank or heal and you’ll be taken for M+ unless you push really far. Because that’s mostly the biggest problem for keys, the lack of tank and healers.

Agreed. I cant seem to get into any groups over a 3 as a Ret Pally, even though I CC incorporeal with Repent, Dispel afflicted, Freedom roots, Sac the tank and Heals on burst, BoP heals and DPS being dumb and draw aggro, Blind groups when multiple casts go off, But IM sorry my 510 Ret pally pulls 311k overall in dungeons isn’t good enough becasue I’m not a VDH, Mage, Priest, Druid… I hope they fix this because they are seriously catering to the 1% elitest jerks.

Either delete that spec or they have to add more classes to compete with augmentation.

I already said this today, they should study which class today has the least representation and is least played and add a new spec (even if it goes into 4th) for being a support class, and then add a 3rd one later.

Ooh, what a delicious idea… :yum::smiling_face:

Honestly makes me bit afraid lol, seeing as how they were earlier in DF.

And pretty much unaddressed, like you said.

It’s Power Infusion: The Class lol.

I love how they came out in the New Xpac video with all the changes by saying “play what you love to play” and then continue to cater to META driven elitest jerks.

Let me hit you with this one then:

STOP. BEING. ANTI-SOCIAL.

If you’ve gone through dozens of successful pugs and not added a single player to bnet so you can begin to develop a robust social network of people to play with rather than pray to the LFG gods that you get invited, then you need to sleep in the bed you’ve made.

Make friends, run with them. Meta won’t matter.

I know but now there are 2/3 as many spots for real DPS … I feel bad for them now real DPS are waiting forever to get in groups

And hunk you are strong to begin with, no need for that lizard bonus

I’m probably in the delete section because I don’t think augmentation should get more group utility than a devastation evoker. Probably also would be more in favor of a 70/30 ratio when it comes to their dps/support dps.

I don’t know why they decided to give them 47383 aoe stops.

I think Aug/support is cool for the game, Blizz just makes stupid decisions (like how VDH existed for 2 seasons).

Having/not having the spec because of people pushing title/TGP is about as tone deaf of a response Blizz could ever do.

Well kinda follows with the augmentation dev admitting they wanted them to be op.
With dracthyr being available to more classes I’m expecting probably some nerf on the cc ground.

As far M+ goes it it just sucks. Play meta or be a liability. Finally parked my feral and play this now. Not that I prefer this, not that I want to. But because the balance is so bad I feel compelled to. And Windwalker isn’t even an eye popping spec in M+, but at least it’s within 100k of a lot specs potential.

And you can get by fine, even with feral, up to the +10 range solely on IO and iLvl. So that’s not really an issue. But if you want to push higher FOTM is the cost of doing business. In an infinitely scaling system eventually the smallest of differences will matter a lot.

The problem is no one wants to be the runt or the carry, and massive imbalances force players to either accept that or play a toon they don’t want to. Neither of which would seem to be a positive for customer retention.
