This isn’t advocating for any change of any sort, just a discussion piece.
If Paladins and Shamans weren’t exclusive to Alliance and Horde, i.e. you could roll Horde Paladin or Alliance Shaman, what other two classes would/could be faction exclusive?
Warlocks being Horde only and Rogues being Alliance would make for some fun times! WoTF wouldn’t be as OP and I why not pair the other two hated things together!
If I can be horde gnome, maybe. Otherwise, no deal.
I also always thought if the game was separated by Classes and not Races (mind the balancing would be horrid) would make for a weird take too. Get your shady classes versus the goody ones.
That’s kinda what they went for in legion and it was… weird. Getting frostbolted by Archmage Modera paired up with a horde mage really made no sense.
Ally mage and horde lock I could vibe with, I guess?
You would have to split them I think. Having Horde Mages and Warlocks (cause locks aren’t inherently good so, they’re horde). Druids would be split still because 9 classes doesn’t make it even.
I guess I would put it
Horde: Shamans, Rogues, Warlocks, Warriors
Alliance: Priest, Paladins, Hunters, Mages
(yes I made the classes fall in line that the post discussed breaking apart)
I would make hunters Alliance only then you guys could have all the loot drama.
Alliance Mage and Horde Warlock makes the most sense. Dalaran is basically Alliance and demons and the occult never really fit with the Alliance vibe of any race.
Kind of how there’s Undead Priest. Really goes against the whole “Body of Light” thing.
Warlocks are really a faction in and of themselves. Alliance or Horde it doesn’t matter we work together for our own benefit. Don’t tell anybody I told you.

Sounds like something a Druid would say! If I see an Alliance Mage I don’t help them anymore then any other Alliance member. Do Warlocks help each other?

I would love to have a quest line that allows you to choose which faction your characters align with.
Human horde, Tauren Alliance!! That could be cool.
That would be cool! No more being forced into a specific faction! And if anything, you could go Neutral too.
There is good and bad in every race. It should not be, I have horns, tusks, or rotten flesh, therefore I am evil or on the bad side.
For a lore standpoint it would make 10x more sense why in Retail we get Horde and Alliance working together so often.
In Warcraft 1 horde had warlock exclusive and humans, mage. Humans had priest and horde shaman…

That’s right! but we should dictate how good or evil we want to be!
Or if I do good deeds more then bad, that steers me one way and vice versa.
