Differences between then and now

I’ve been noticing a few things that work differently than the original vanilla. This list is kind of a for fun or for your information in case something here was a reason you rolled the class you did or made certain choices.

I’m not making this list as a “fix it list” but more of an awareness list, though if this did bring attention to unaware broken things that got fixed, then yay. If you have any to add reply directly to this message.

  • You can’t break Smite’s stun in deadmines with a paladin bubble anymore.
  • You can’t wall hop mountains and walls like you could before.
  • Judging Seal of Justice doesn’t lock movement speed to 100% anymore.
  • You can’t use the cannon to cheese the last boss in deadmines.
  • Mob pathing and mob adjusting behavior acts different to vanilla and more like 8.0 (which makes sense being 8.1 engine pretty much.)
  • fleeing mobs don’t seem to aggro other mobs while fleeing but will if they stop fleeing near a mob.
  • Fleeing mobs in dungeons seem to randomly never stop running in fear till they die. (I have seen some come back and some just run off and had to find it to get out of combat.)

I have some others I can’t recall atm, but I thought it would be fun to see what other classes have seen unintended changes or broken parts of their class or other things in the world.

Back then I could abandon my pet. Now I’m stuck with my pet. That’s my only negative gripe classic is awesome.

I just asked a hunter in my guild and he said he right clicks the portrait and abandon pet is an option.

This, havent had issues abandoning wolves as I’ve upgraded their skills.

That last bit about fleeing mobs is real bad in BFD. Pretty sure you could make that whole dungeon get stuck in an endless fear run.

Am I crazy or in vanilla were you able to self summon in instances? I didn’t play a lock so maybe I’m misremembering?

This one isn’t wholly accurate. True you can’t wall hop everywhere, but they fixed that earlier than 1.12 in vanilla.

If, however, you are talking about like falling under SW or getting into The Caverns of Time. That is totally possible and I know from personal experience that you can do it.

This also doesn’t work 100% like it did in vanilla, but it does still totally cheese. Put the healer on the cannon and don’t attack the adds. The adds will break and just stand there trying to get at the healer and VC can just be mowed over.

When we tried this the healer got aggro and as soon as they got to the edge they instantly turned back to the tank and ignored the healers aggro. They would flick their attention back to the healer for like half a second and go back to tank now and then.

Hmm, they might have fixed it even more so then. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve been in Deadmines.

You are no longer able to use assist focus macros.

Warlocks don’t have this option.

Summoning infernals is broken.

Rat Catcher’s Flute can’t be used outside of the tram.

You should see some of the bugs in high level dungeons. Golem lord argelmarch takes a lap of the room when you pull him. There are mobs in the ground. If only they tested this stuff. Also, post with your classic character!

almost positive it was 3 people. often had to wait ages at brd for some to get there so we could summon.

This is a weird one as Blizzard intentionally fixed it in general because it could be used for exploiting, but they left in some things that they considered harmless and part of the game’s flavor.

It’s not that they intentionally fixed it, it was actually a byproduct of using the updated engine and how collision is handled in that.

But my classic character is named Klare and I don’t wanna be known as that on the forum >.>

No, they did intentionally fix it. In the presentation that Ion did at last year’s Blizzcon, he very clearly stated that exploits that enabled players to gain advantage over others would be fixed.

Wall-walking and similar tricks had already been patched out before 1.12. Stalling WSG matches by wall-walking/jumping with the flag to inaccessible areas was a real problem before attempts were made pretty quickly to fix it in vanilla.

That is why they picked the 1.12 patch, it fixed a lot of exploits and OP with some classes and was more balanced than any patch before it. That is why you can not do those things.

Most of what I said you could do multiple expansions in. Especially the Judgement of Justice, which is the biggest bummer for me
