Class hall followers in Legion, the calling quest from Covenant mission, and now with the Warbands, are beginning that your AI group will be your alters.
IDK if they are condemned or not for the society of this game, but those who played Final Fantasy even though it was turn-based like Baldurs Gate, or Final Fantasy XV where you played with 3 AI characters in a fighting boss.
Everything indicates that it is one more step to the solo dungeons of WoW.
