Did you see Stanley?

Can you kill him?

(Groot Shocked)

Oh, this one is better:

Based on the 3 models shown on WoWhead, 1 Horde outfit, 1 Alliance outfit, & 1 other, I wonder if the ‘other’ model might be a holiday outfit. Looks Pilgrim-ish (minus the headgear) to me. Or perhaps 3rd faction confirmed…

I was playing the PS4 Spiderman game recently and the same thing happened, I wasn’t expecting it. Got me a little teary.

They should have made the NPC a rogue…and then have him wander around stealing things from other people.

iirc they didn’t want to make the game a graveyard of people the dev team personally know.

But TB is in SC2.

Blizzard indeed have to pick and choose wisely who to memorialise in game.

Random throw away references are fine and add to interest and depth as we play. But decent tributes to people who were icons in their field, a field not far removed from WoW, are much appreciated by WoW players.

Stanley Hudson?

No. Stan Lee. Probably the most famous person involved in comics during the Silver Age. Also quite influential during the Golden age of comics too. He worked on the story and character development side of things as well as being senior to the other creatives (such as pencillers) at Marvel Comics.

I don’t get the reference, sorry.

He should be a hunter with a spider and panther pet.

Sometimes I light a match between my fingers just to feel something, anything.

Dang I wish I had thought of that. Perfect!

Actually, to be true to him, I hope so. He was a great critic of comic superheros who were too perfect. Everyone had to have a vulnerability, a weakness. Being too immune or super (and he was pointing at Superman here) meant that the comic superhero was flawed.

His ability to steal credit for things he did not do, and refuse to share it?

Sorry, I was making a dumb joke referencing the Office. Actually, I stand by the joke. (“Jim look” at the camera).

Got it. Difficult to reply here as anything I write will sound like I am white washing over that.

I don’t think he stole credit as in “it was only me”. I’d urge anyone to read up well on this issue and judge for themselves.

The main argument might be that Stan Lee did not give fair attribution when he was in a position to do so?

As the “creative boss” at Marvel he would off course resist. And he did. Got to keep costs down and stop the artists also getting paid for hero development and story line work. The Marvel system meant only four main people would get the credit for each story, in predefined roles, regardless of how much the penciller for example influenced the story.

Underpayment of artists was rife during the Golden and Silver ages. It also explained why artists would jump ship and move to other publications so often.

The question is that in later years, when freed from the boss yoke at Marvel, did he fully accept the role artists played in the development of Spiderman? I think that is the main one people usually cite.

But to reduce Stan Lee’s total contribution to that of a rogue stealing everything I think is going way too far.

I really don’t want to defend DC in any way, but isn’t kryptonite synonymous with major (singular) weakness? Then there’s characters like Wolverine and Darwin with no real weaknesses.

Honestly I just miss the “at war” box that we could tick to attack npcs.

When Superman was initially written way back in the 1940s, I think it was, kryptonite wasn’t a thing.
That came a bit later as Superman had to have some kind of weakness, otherwise the actual story of Superman was too limited.

The real weakness of Superman was that he lived amoung those he would survive to lose. He would lose it all, in time yet he continued to remain amoung them, loved the people and would save/help them.

It’s kind of an S&M story in a way. At least, that’s what I always thought.

Ah, that makes sense. I didn’t know he was that OP initially.

i’ve searched all over Orgrimmar, no sign of the King of Cameos, if you think about it, it’s kinda sad how out of the ENTIRE Marvel universe, the only person who would know of Stan Lee’s passing, would be the Merc With The Mouth, himself, Deadpool, since he’s fully aware that he’s a fictional comic book character

I really hope we get more Stanley NPCs in the future. Don’t keep him cooped up in Stormwind. Let him be free to explore Azeroth!
