Did you know that there are PvP devs who are really good?

I was watching a video on YouTube of absterge talking about how there are really good players on the dev team. Sodah being one of them. Sodah even won blizzcon.

there’s a few others but yeah I guess there are really good pvp players on the dev team. And I honestly thought that they didn’t even play the game.

Gee, are they Ret players?

I mean I don’t know what goes on over at blizzard. I don’t work there. But they have devs who are very capable of understanding what they are doing.

Yes… is this supposed to be shocking?

The former players that work for Blizzard aren’t PvP devs lmao. They’re like QA guys or work for e-sports etc.

I’m sure after this weeks AWC, the hard nerf bat would come. Just a speculation, the PvP devs such as Sodah who won blizzcon before prolly see the majority of the PvP player base as noobies. We probably are in their eyes. Why do you think Cdew said 2400 is the bare minimum entry lvl to PvP? We are just bad players and our opinions and complaints are mostly due to incompetence. But if the top top end AWC players suffer just as much, you bet the changes will come quick.

I think Ion used to raid for some big name guild before he was hired.

Like he has the scarab lord.

No reason why a past blizz con champion can’t be a dev.

Yeah a lot of devs were/are players, but you are talking about high level PvP players being current devs and it’s simply not true. While you don’t need a related degree to become a WoW pvp dev (Ion was a lawyer) most probably do and the ones that don’t are very intelligent with an aptitude for the job. Just being good at PvP doesn’t mean you would have what it takes to get a coveted dev job at Blizzard and as far as I know no high-end players ever have.

Well I think it’s the theory crafting is what got Ion his job. Like being able to problem solve.

I personally thought devs were just coders who looked at statistics and made changes based on that. And there’s def some truth to that.

The key skill is probably problem solving tho. to win blizzcon you probably need a deep understanding of the game, and problem solving skills.

That’s not to say all blizzcon winners can or should become devs so Sodah probably had other qualifications.

Absterge named a few other high rated players who are pvp devs, who probably had other qualifications outside of being good at the game. Not sure what their names were. I just remembers Sodah cause he put emphasis on the fact he won blizzcon.

Who is Sodah? You mean Sodapoppin? If so he is not a WoW dev. Like I said I have never heard of any high level PvP player being a dev for Blizzard.

I’m pretty sure they’ve said there aren’t “PvP Devs” in the sense there’s a round table of devs that solely look after PvP.

Like Chris Kaleki took it up on his self to make spells for PvP talents and some PvP world building (think bgs) but he was still part of the team that devs the entire game.

Also think it’s been implied there’s a ton of red tape and changes have to be seen by a lot of eyes and agreed upon as a group before buffs/nerfs are even considered

I mean I have no idea what goes on over there. But I do assume that pvp devs are lower on the pecking order and there’s probably a lot of red tape.

Yeah, two week process or something.

I really don’t think there are PvP devs, or ppl that solely work on PvP alone. Even holinka is a combat systems lead or something? With his history with Ashran and PvP world busing he prob just takes charge sue to experience/tenure length

Which is why I laugh whenever someone mentions something like warrior mobility is the way it is because of mages.

Just like we don’t CC/5x sunder pull in dungeons anymore the whole game evolves/gets faster.

Thry don’t look to develop 2 separate games, tho they seem to be getting way better at PvP specific auras/templates for abilities this expac

I mean I can’t say for sure how it works but I think the PvP devs just get a lot less resources and priority. That one seems to be a sure thing.

I think Chris K. basically worked solely on PvP based off his interviews. For example he said another dev was playing the game and died to like a moonkin dot by accident while they were farming and they stormed into his office asking for something to be done. Clearly they weren’t developing for PvP and knew who was for that to happen. It would make sense too, most companies have people sort of specialize in a certain area.

No I didn’t know

Venruki said something similar on stream.

He said he had a lot of trust in this PvP dev team to get things right.

This was before the Ret fiasco.

They hired I think 100 spell break devs? Not to say they’re all on PvP duty but think they absorbed a lot of talent with ideas to draw from than just one person volunteering for the short straw.

Who knows what context that dev going into his office was in (could of been like a tongue in cheek)

I just lean towards they wouldn’t put an end game activity into the hands of one person. There will always be a face or a “guy” but I think it’s just bureaucracy and man hours and observation periods that kinda mandate where PvP goes.

And of course the direction of the entire game.
