the gcd is really long and painful especially at lower levels when you first start playing (that was one of my reasons for quitting back in the day when ARR was current content ) but in the upper levels you get so many OGCD attacks that it ends up being as fast, if not faster than wow imo
i also think the game is meant to be played not as an MMORPG but as an RPGMMO. the story, world, and characters i think are all a lot more polarizing factors for a lot of people vs the gameplay loop which is kind of the opposite for most popular MMORPG including WoW
Ya I gave it a real try back in the day, samurai was fun. But the pvp just doesn’t do it for me. The viper class does look cool though.
yeah, the pvp is quite weak imo.
the only game modes are 24v24v24 ant war which is miserable for anything besides ranged, mobile game league simulator which is actually pretty fun, but you can’t queue with friends so the replayability is extremely low, and rival wings which is sort of an inbetween, more fun than frontline, less fun than CC, but you can queue with friends. but there’s literally no reward system at all and the queues for that mode are so dead they make dps shuffle queues look like hotcakes.
they also totally overhauled the pvp system about a year or so ago and i think it was much improved (but not perfect), did you try it then?

my friend is crazy about gw2 but i could never really get into it, i started playing around the time it launched back in MoP. i got to max level as a necromancer and idk, the pvp just kind of felt limited to massive AV style battles. has it changed since then?

PvP is 5v5 domination (there’s technically another mode but nobody plays it cause it sucks and it’s not in ranked)
They have 3 gamemodes:
-Arena (pretty similar to 2v2 wow)
-Structured Pvp arena (think 5 man BGs)
-WvW (think epic BGs like wintergrasp but significantly larger)
Theres a LOT more class diversity now and the meta has shifted more towards class skill expression than vehicles/terrain. It’s VERY sweaty/tryhard which may or may not be your thing!
Just a heads up this is only active in between seasons (it also just doesn’t translate as well into gw2 sadly)
