Did you guys like the new Lord of the Rings show?

It is sad how they made Elrond.

It was alright. Given all the hate that it seems to be getting on social media, it wasn’t as bad as everyone was predicting.

I am a Tolkien fan. I have read the Silmarillian and some of Tolkien’s Unfinished Tales. I am debating getting Amazon Prime just for this show. I want to watch the show, but I have a hard time signing up and subscribing to a streaming service just for one show. I will probably subscribe when more episodes are out.

As far as the controversy - I am OK with the different direction. As many others have said, few adaptations are 100% true to the source material. I do not see the big deal.

Controversies like this remind me of the movie “Pleasantville”, where some irrational hate is getting people to react in disgusting ways. As if a little color is the doom of the world.

Literally anyone that unironically uses woke to dislike a show is because of this. black person shows up on screen > woke.

I was going to say if a Gay Person is not denigrated or pointed out as as different, a show is called woke.

But the graphic laid alot of that out.

Also, if a show does not acknowledge a Christian God as the true god, it is considered woke these days.

He’s fine acting the role. It just takes some effort to not think of Game of Thrones.

LOL never watching that cash-grab political woke show. It makes fun of Tolkien’s work, which may I add- are the ONLY canon works of LOTR. This new show is non-canon and needs to be buried and forgotten to squeeze that extra $$ from your wallet. Tolkien would be rolling in his grave right now if he knew what was going on.

Also youtube:

“Proof They Are DELETING The Rings Of Power Negative Reviews From IMDB & Rotten Tomatos!”

The show is LITERALLY being paid off behind-the-scenes for scores and reviews to be rigged and hidden if it’s not high. That’s how bad it is, so bad they have to go this far.

Yup! They are literally throwing out all lore and forcing retconned lore so its non canon fan fiction. Gandalf went by a different name in the 2nd era and did NOT visit Mordor in that time. The producers ignored it anyway and said “screw the lore, we got big $$ to make”. Tolkien’s work is the only canon work of LOTR. Nothing else is official.

Wait… Gandalf’s in this? The Istari didn’t arrive in Middle Earth until the Third Age.

A younger Gandalf at that. Gandalf also doesn’t age in Tolkien canon. Yeah they dumped all his lore out. They don’t care as long as $$ rolls in and profits.

Funnily enough Saruman unlike Gandalf aged from Black Hair with Grey Streaks to White Hair with few Black Streaks on the Beard according to Tolkien Lore.

The Peoples of Middle-earth, a volume in The History of Middle-earth mentions the Blue Wizards coming during the Second Age and going to the East with Saruman(who came first and alone according to Tolkien).

Saruman and the Blue Wizards were the only Wizards who were supposed to be in Middle Earth during the Second Age which is not surprising since Gandalf is said to have been afraid of Sauron and Radagast needed someone to accompany him to Middle Earth apparently.

If I didn’t know anything about J. R. R. Tolkien I would be glued to my seat with anticipation about what is to come after episode 1.

Knowing what I know about the LotR universe, I enter into this series knowing that this is only a fan art adaptation of the source material and let’s face it…a wokegasim.

I didn’t wait long enough to know if DS9 is good or bad, I saw how it was received and I cut that community and their show out of my life. I don’t care if DS9 is a masterpiece, I just don’t want to be associated with Star Trek community or LOTR community.

I wasn’t hooked by the end of ep1 but ep2 for sure had me wanting more.

Also, it made me want to reroll Dwarf.

Only if it doesn’t make sense for the context.
This show is a very Americanized/Diversified (and yes, woke) version of Tolkien’s original work.

Tar-Miriel is given a very different book description as an example.
There are non-canon characters that are very clearly in the show for one reason: to fill the diversity quota.

This is in no way meant to bash the work that was put into the show or to any of the actors/actresses in it.

This is very clearly a business decision (cash grab) for Jeff Bezos.

I haven’t seen the show but I heard that some people are mad that there are black people in it so I assume it’s a good show, just like The Witcher

Not surprising. This community hates everything

Tolkien’s peripheral works are hard to read let alone watch as a TV show. I knew from the beginning that it would need to be heavily adapted. Want to add some black dwarves/hobbits/elves? Go for it. Expecting a pure canon show is hilariously unreasonable.

Like I said previously, I approach it as fan fiction and am enjoying it so far.

I am a Fan of the LOTR books and movies.

To be honest the Rings of Power has really neat visual effects. The music it’s fine.
The Story it’s strange … Amazon don’t have the Rights of Silmarilion - so they improvise a lot .
A lot of politics are introduced . The Lore is missing .

Tolkien had a different message in his Books.

This feel more like huge Fan-Fiction

BTW the dialogues are really poor written.

The Elves don’t look like elves at all.

Maybe Galadriel it’s the only character wich is ok ?!? Not great . But I can watch her .

I hope that show fails miserably. It’s an abomination to LOTR and Tolkien
