Side note: Are the names permanent or will they be deleted every season?
At the end of the season you have a window to transfer characters to classic era, which seems to indicate if you do not the server is wiped. Now, whats the chance of you transferring to a classic era server and someone else having that name?

I was out at the time and completely forgot when I got home, but I still got the name.
I don’t think Sabetha is super popular that people want to lock down in 20 seconds, though.

I pondered the possibility of doing that as well. But too costly. The one name reservation per account was slightly annoying. Cynically one might think Blizzard did this on purpose
Did get one of mine on pve server. didnt get mine on pvp server as it took literally 72 seconds to let me in. I was not alone with that but some got in instantly and therefore no chance. Happens I guess 
Got mine. Trick is to not waste time with char creation and just res the name with default. On launch day you can then delete the char and use your new name.

I got a shortened form of the name I wanted. Better than nothing, I guess. Probably could have gotten the actual name I wanted if the seasonal tab had popped up for me on time, rather than ten minutes later.

The easy fix to that is to simply redesignate the ending SoM realms as classic realms and merge them. Then you have hyphenated names like in retail but no name change required.
