Did you choose your name for its meaning?

Even though I don’t RP I always try to pick a word with some meaning for my alts. Like I have a DK named Macabre (who was supposed to be Unholy but I liked Frost too much ) and a lock named Hex (because of, you know, curses, even though Hex is a Shaman spell ) but this alt had the most intended meanings for me.

Keen means sharp, like her blades or her sarcasm
It can mean fierce or intense
It’s having very sensitive perception (which goes with Spectral Sight)
It’s a cry of sorrow or a wail for the dead (perfect for the most Hot Topic class)
Keen is also (older) slang for neat or cool

I was just like, yup, that’s the name for this character. Plus, Countess Keen just has a certain ring to it. Anyway, I’m keen on hearing the meanings behind your names or why you chose them.

I use the prefix “astri” for starlight as a paladin

Yeah, I usually do this. I tend to go for a language that fits the assumed culture of the race I’m playing as well.

Most characters just have random names that I think sound okay, like this one. My main has a specific story behind it tied to a book character, but it all kind of got messed up by changing factions and races. I have a silly pun name for my shaman.

Nothing wrong with a silly pun name.

In Japanese her name means along the lines of “peaceful sunrise” which is pretty cool. But I only found that out later on, it’s not why I chose it.

I realm changed back in Legion and her old name was taken so I had to pick a new one. Asana I just randomly typed in. It was available and sounded pretty and appealing so here I am! Out of her past names this is my favorite one. I always try to do realistic ish names that fit in someone’s race/culture.

I made this toon Konserva as short for “conservative” when i was trolling about politics in 2019-2020.

I don’t do it anymore but it was really fun really good times made me happy and I’m still happy today

I do often try to use names with some meaning to them, though the exact meaning of the name isn’t always the meaning I seek from it. To elaborate, most of my elven characters use Greek names but the meaning of the individual names is largely negligible.

This Monk’s name was given meaning retroactively for rp purposes.

Addendum:

To elaborate on the Elf name thing, I give them Greek names as a reference to Amazons; this is especially the case with my Night Elves, for reasons I hope are obvious.

I got the name from the half-elf Ranger unit that was cut from the beta of Warcraft III, then later reused for Dark Rangers.

Nobody knows.

This character’s name is perhaps the most unique name I’ve ever come up with.

Sometimes. Other times it’s just… worthy of a facepalm I guess. Like dad jokes.

Sunzsu, the art of naming.

All of my character names have some kind of meaning.

Example: I named this character Beaupeep because I played a mage for a LONG time.

A juvenile Spanish class joke that has stuck with me for…16? 17? years. That’s how I got this name.

Also always use the same person for the forums, regardless of if I’m playing him this expansion or not.
