Naw, they are still going (Well, not sure about the earlier FF, never played it). They are just more F2P models now.
there are 2 ff mmos, ffxi came out in 2002 and ffxiv which came out like 10 yearts later.
Before WoW, I played Everquest and FFXI…WoW was a much better game than either of them, so I switched.
Neither of them “died,” but they did take a massive hit to their player base.

FFXI ended in 2016. So no, WoW did not kill it. If anything, FFXIV killed it.

Yeah definitely, in fact wow KILLED every single mmo that’s why we are stuck here in forums limbo
Semantics aside, it’s fair to say WoW showed how unappealing hardcore MMORPGs were.
In that regard, it “killed” FF11. That was definitely one of the more hardcore games. FF14 copied WoW for good reason.

WoW had a measurable impact on 'em but didn’t kill it. Mind, WoW had a measureable impact on MtG of all things
I’d argue FFXI’s playstyle killed itself if anything. That game was vicious and the story of a certain 20 hour boss fight didn’t exactly make it more appealing to a casual fanbase who just wanted to hop in and fight Cloud (which they couldn’t do)
XIV will probably deliver the last blow though, especially after the remaining XI fans were laughing at 1.0’s crash and burn

No? FFXI died on its own, it had so many insane problems.
idk about FF11 or Ultima (heard the former was MISERABLE), but this game 100% singlehandedly obliterated EverQuest on release.
I don’t think folks realized just how massively EQ fell off the instant WoW released.
