Did they change WM and PvP gear?

I’m so confused, before the patch I had 101k with fort buff with war mode on. Log on after patch and I’m down to 88k, was the removal of scaling of PvP gear in WM an intended change for this patch because I didn’t see that anywhere.

its unclear (to me) weather its an oversight or an intentional thing but PVP gear now only “activates” in pvp combat or arena/bgs. It used to work this way in WoD.

I think its weird they do this to PVP gear but not apply the same logic to PVP talents. So i think it might not be intended.

Pvp ilvl only turns on when you’re pvping. So if you’re questing in pvp gear you only get the PvE ilvl version.

This is because they don’t want world players to feel like they need conquest gear that can get max pvp ilvl without rating.

do you have a source on that? or is it just an opinion because i’m frustrated with this silly change.

Its been well documented.

Its fair given its so easy to get conquest from battlegrounds or any versions of arena and theres no ranks based on rating.

Whereas to get around equivelant PVE players would need to do mythic raiding or 20+ mythic keys.

wowhead has the information

You can view the information here:

As it stands currently, PvP ilvl continues to scale when you enter PvP combat (presumably because it’s still bugged or because they decided to keep this active for prepatch since old gear is still relevant). In Dragonflight though, the plan is for PvP gear to not scale at all to it’s PvP ilvl in War Mode, and instead will use its base ilvl which you can upgrade through rated PvP.

We lost 10% stamina from Deepening Bond (Shadowlands renown). The patch changed the effect to grant movement speed instead of stamina.

I don’t get the logic behind this. If you’re in war mode you have access to pvp talents but not pvp gear item level…?

I guess world pvp just gets the finger.

Also this’ll make pve gear better for pvp than pvp gear… at least in the open world. If the item level stops scaling at all.

It’s really not a big deal.

PvP gear ilvl in the world can be upgraded based on rated rating. Reality is not many PvE players will have max gear either as that’s for mythic raiders. The gear ilvl gaps are also smaller than the start of SL.

Then there’s the fact a dedicated PvPer should be better at PvP in the world than a PvE player. Plus, more likely to talent and gear for PvP if you’re actively looking for world PvP vs someone who isn’t makes a big difference.

But wouldn’t they just have war mode off anyways at that point?

There have been some concerns about how limited the stat options are for PvP gear and I have to say it has me worried.

Doesn’t hurt to make it accessible to both PvE and PvP players instead of just alienating the small PvP player base even further from the game.

Our player base for PvP is small and War Mode is opt in, it’s content and population relies on people wanting to opt into it, regardless if they’re PvPing or not. You’re gonna get players who are only in it for the bonus, and that’s fine, but at least give them a fighting chance. Upgrade the gear if you want to be stronger in War Mode.

I get the logic behind why pvp item level in warmode would be unchanged… but then I’d argue… War Mode is World of Warcraft with PvP always possible… so… how’s it going to be when, if we take the current situation… base Honor gear at 268 is hundreds of BG’s to rank up to max across the board… whilst PvE’ers with their 304 mythic plus items will walk on pvp’ers in pvp gear in the world, where the pvp’ers are in warmode for pvp being possible, whilst pve’ers are in warmode for the 10 or 15% benefits of exp/etc. This bit doesn’t make sense unless pvp and pve items will have that equal footing in warmode, which from this whole snippet at wowhead, seems like it wont. Am I understanding this wrong?

Well you’re comparing base honor gear to mythic gear, that’s your first problem. A better comparison would be comparing base honor gear with upgrades to LFR/normal raid gear, that’s a more fair comparison, which is on par with one another.

Conquest gear with upgrades compared to mythic+ ilvl is more on par. You just do the rated PvP and you can upgrade to mythic ilvl.
