Did Queen Azshara make Elisande Grand Magistrix?

Was doing the quest with Thalyssra and Azshara said something about her not being good enough to be Grand Magistrix or something to that effect. I guess at some point Thalyssra was up for it and was passed over for Elisande. Or they had that battle thing like we did in the ly’leth lunadtre questline and she lost.

Thalyssra does seem like a rather “weak” mage despite years of experience and being a high ranking highborne/nightborne. She always needs assistance with spells and gets tired alot. And every single nighthold nightborne boss does seem way more powerful than she is.

I always thought of her as being powerful but so far, I’m not seeing it. Jaina the “novice” seems more powerful.

It can be assumed that she did, yes.

As far as power levels go, it’s best not to worry about it too much. In true comic book fashion, each character will be exactly as powerful as the plot demands, when it demands it.

having a lot of knowledge doesn’t mean you can put it into practice. She just lack raw power.

Well you have to admit she was cast out of Surumar and was pretty much mana starved when we found her . It is possible that even though she has recovered her strength maybe she hasn’t recovered all of it as of yet.

Yea maybe. Oculeth seems just fine.

Remember he just has to control portals and even then he needed our help to open one fro Nazjatar to the Great Seal.

Jaina has all that human potential and benefits from human privilege.

Because he is a badass.

Plus if you look at it this way .

There is the old saying of what it says in the book vs actual application .

In theory Thalyssra should be stronger because of age and years practicing but Jaina is stronger because of actual practical use of her abilities in real situations.

Remember that Azshara wanted, most of all, to feel beloved of her people. If Thalryssa maintained an independent judgement, or disagreed, or criticized, that would have kept her out of any top posts. Elisandre was probably better at saying what Azshara wanted to hear.

As far as Nightborne sorcery goes, compared to Jaina’s or other Kirin Tor mages, remember that Suramar was a very small world of its own, for a very long time. It is easy to fall into a routine when you live under a bell-jar and aren’t pressed to grow beyond it.

The same limitations, to a different extent, apply to the Magisters of Quel’Thalas. They were inherently isolationist and, regardless of what the Night Elves might think, very, very cautious about attracting the attention of the Burning Legion. They got very good at “domestic” magic, and had some battle-magic. But the only real threat was the Amani, and after the Troll Wars, they stopped really growing.

Jaina is Human, and even if Kul Tiras distanced itself after the Third War, Humans were front and center for the First, Second and Third wars, and not shy about deploying mages, or trying things spur of the moment.

A lot of “human potential” is not having 10,000 years of cultural assumptions about what magic is or what it can do. Khadgar is another example of the sort of Human mage who seems to take a “Gee, whiz!” attitude that is a little wacky, but definitely open to new ideas.

Off topic. I also did this quest with Shandris and she wasn’t tired after blocking the waves of water. She’s not even a mage. Not sure what she used to block those lol.

The quest was rather forgettable as far as the details but I’m glad she found her friend in the end. Azshara’s comments were more general and not specific to Shandris but more of her “class of people.” I know they couldn’t force Tyrande to be there but even Prince Farondis would have been better. But how to do even get a ghost there? Plus the ghosts there probably all hate him too.

True, her bubble lasts us what, about 30 seconds before we need to have the withered burned down when we meet her? Powerful? Not then certainly.

And she hasn’t drank the power of “Thunder God”. Of course she is still MUCH stronger than we are even half starved.

She also has the focusing iris still right?

TRue but this was in comparison to Jaina.

WHo despite being thousands of years younger then Thalyssra had the advantage of more practical use of magic in combat type settings compared to Thalyssra.

Nope. Her staff does have the power of the Thunder King though.

Jaina is definitely not a novice lol. And spending 10,000 years in a bubble making arcwine with like a couple months of deprivation probably doesn’t help.
