Did Kung Fu Panda ruin MoP?

MoP seems to finally be getting the love it deserved (especially Pandaren) over the past couple years and all this newfound respect and love for the expansion makes me wonder just how much better MoP would have done (and WoW as a whole for that matter) if Kung Fu Panda was out of the picture. I’m sure you all remember how absolutely chaotic it was when MoP was announced, and at least to me, I can’t remember such a split in public opinion about an expansion before release and almost all of the hate for it being directly from people’s comparisons to Kung Fu Panda.

That being said, do you guys think MoP would’ve done better if Kung Fu Panda wasn’t a thing? Or would it still turn out the same, thinking Pandaren and the expansion as “childish”? I personally think it would’ve done better, and WoW in general might be in a better spot in people’s minds.

Pandaren are the best part of MoP.

I felt like Pandaren could have been more interesting if they had some Humans and Orcs are on there and would add to whole Chinese and Japanese Civilization like what Ionia did in League.

Considering how long it takes to make an expansion development would have started long before KFP was ever even heard of. That being the case I’d put money down that there was extremely little - if any - influence from it in MoP.

Mop was great. You just had weirdos who couldnt get kong fu panda out of their heads for a minute to enjoy other things.

I don’t think the film had that much of an affect.

If you compare both male and female Pandaren aesthetic. The females came out fantastic.

The male Pandaren remind me of Stewie Griffin owning a Big and Tall store.

Oh for sure. What I was saying was that public opinion of the expansion would be different, not the actual game.

The controversy around MoP from what I recall was that Pandaren were a bit of a joke race in the RTS games (I’ve never played them so can’t confirm) and that the expansion was a blatant attempt to curry favor with the Chinese market. I don’t recall anything about Kung Fu Panda. Is the movie referenced at all in the game?

kung fu panda 1 was a great movie and i’m not accepting any opinions to the contrary. Haven’t seen kung fu panda 2 or 3 yet and cannot pass judgement on those.

Watch it OP, treading on thin ice with us Pandas. Let us drink and fight in peace

Oh well in that case I don’t think the “durr goofy cartoon” nonsense would have been any different, I think KFP just gave the trolls more low-hanging fruit to use as ammo.

What does an animated movie have to do with an expansion about a faction war and the Void?

In my opinion 2 was good but kind of missed the mark, but 3 was a home run.

Hate to break it to everyone but mop was out before Kung fu panda, in other words people are stupid, and will latch onto anything remotely similar

Did you mean Pandaren? Kung Fu Panda was out a couple years before MoP.

I don’t think so. When MoP came out. (I was still a kid.) Asked my father to buy me the new WoW Xpac and like always. He did! He always asked what they were about though he never played the game.(I later learned he just wanted to chat with me, love my dad<3.) I told him and without know anything about the game. He looked at me and said. “It’s probably going to be fun like all your other xpacs. Just it sounds like this was aimed at the Chinese market.”

Without understanding. I played the xpac and like always I had fun! I don’t think kung fu Panda did anything for it other than maybe actually bring in some people! I mean… heck if I saw a movie about fighting pandas.(Also I thought the movie was good!) I would probably imitate it as a kid and then see an add somewhere for WoW about being a kick butt panda. I would probably want to play that game.
