Did Jolkien Rolkien Rolkien Tolkien invent the first Orc?

So I know warcraft was supposed to be a warhammer game until something happened with the license and blizzard went their own way with the story.

So a lot of warcraft was just ripped from warhammer, but before that, did Tolkien create the lore of the orc that warhammer used?

Orcs have existed in mythology for centuries. Tolkien popularized it is all. Also the orc lore in Tolkien is corrupted elves whereas in Warhammer its asexual green spore monsters, more a force of nature bent on war than anything else.

There are no orcs in Warhammer fantasy or 40k.

Somewhat more race developed by Tolkien.

The origins are as vague as Gnomes being spirits.

Goblins, Faerie Folk, and Faerie Spirits have been around for centuries, thanks to the British Isles and their folk going ham on the local psychedelics.

ā€˜Orc’ or 'Ork’s have been popularized as human-esque Goblins.

Don’t think so, pretty sure Orcs have existed conceptually longer then Tolkien’s creation.

Leave da finkin’ to da Nobz. Now stop gabbin’ an’ strap your Tank Busta on. Dat Leman Russ is 'bout to go boom.

Well… they (Orcs) are mentioned in Beowulf. Which was written centuries before Tolkien was even conceived…

A different word orc , [alluding] to a [demon] or ogre, appears in Old English glosses of about AD 800 and in the word orcnēas (ā€œmonstersā€) in the poem Beowulf . As with the Italian orco (ā€œogreā€) and the word ogre itself, it ultimately derives from the Latin Orcus , a god of the underworld. The Old English creatures were most likely the inspiration for the orcs that appear in J-R-R-Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings .

The more you know :rainbow: :open_book:

So you either think your mom is an Orc or have no idea when Lord of the Rings was published.

It was more of a stab at my mother since she’s clearly not as old as the book  But definitely looks like it

You know what the scariest thing about Orks is? Their religion…
thru the power of sheer faith they force their technology to work no matter how improbable it is.

And Raizul was never heard from again…
