I leveled over 20 characters to 120 in BFA. I did this because I felt like I was “progressing” through the game and adding “value” to my account. Maxing out characters, collecting large amounts of gold, mounts, and collectibles is what attracts me to WoW as an RPG because I feel like I am making a time investment that cannot be easily diminished.
When Shadowlands is launched, it is said leveling will be 60-70% faster compared to BFA. This has me worried that both the “value” of my account and the time that I spent leveling in BFA will both be diminished. To put things in perspective, if it took me about 120 days to max out the dozens of characters on my account, Shadowlands would have made that number at around 70-75 days. This means potentially 50 days of time investment have gone to waste.
Did I waste my time leveling in BFA? I may have had fun along the way, but I did so with the goal of adding “value” to my account. Should I even bother leveling more characters before Shadowlands launch?
Im going to keep doing what Im doing now. Running for mogs and leveling new shamans up to 60 and locking them. I’ll worry about the rest when the game changes come and decide then if Im irritated enough to quit or not.
If I cant keep my characters LOCKED in old content, thatll be a deal breaker for me.
Absolutely not. The essence of an RPG, in my opinion, is having a subjective sense of “progression” through the game and knowing that your time did not go to waste. As you progress more, your account becomes more badass and has more “value.” Contrast this concept with a MOBA or a battle royale game, where you start each individual match from scratch.
That depends on how they implement the system. If they make the leveling quicker then they have effectively killed a good portion of the game to cater to those that only care about end game which in effect turns an rpg game into a MOBA.
