Did I pick the wrong race?

Never played wow before, I picked a dwarf paladin bc aesthetics and took it to 25 not knowing much, but I’ve had lots of fun. Anyway I notice I’m like the only dwarf paladin and everyone says I messed up bc humans get stealth detect, weapon proficiency etc.

Is that a huge deal and should I reroll?

its a pretty big deal.

Weapon skill of +5 gives 3% hit at 60

maces and swords as a human
10% more rep earned

dwarf is for pvp, you can stoneform blind off

Stoneform is really good for pvp.

Stealth detect is very niche. Weapon proficiency is fantastic in pve.

Both are fine choices. Most race/class combos don’t matter too much except for priest since they have some awful racial abilities and some broken ones. No other class has racial abilities tho.

You didn’t mess up. Blizzard told us that races without weapon skill would be getting “weapon skill books drops” from BFD.

Still waiting on that promise…

Play what you like and stop worrying about min/maxing.

Tell that to all the alliance locked realms.

I don’t know man. Min Maxing is usually minor things like replacing a +6 str +50 stam belt with a +7 str belt, while Weapon Skill determines not only overall raid performance and role viability but in SoD it determines how high level of a mob you can solo at our 25 cap.

That is a fair point, but is it true that they’ve said something about trying to equalize that between races somehow?

I complied a lil post about it here in hopes of getting Aggrend’s attention:

Okay but not all human paladins will put 8 points in protection to pick up 3% hit from talents.

So I’ll at least be equal with them.

I’m a pretty large PvP person so that’s really why I went dwarf. I guess I’ll stick with it. Doesn’t seem like it will be too game breaking especially if blizzard addresses the weapon skill.

I appreciate the replies gents

No you didn’t, you chose a race that resonates with you and you had fun. WoW is a game, have fun explore and play with friends.

Ok great to hear, I played DAOC for a decade, I was used to racial differences such as like a small stat increase or decrease but not something that actually seemed important like stealth detection or weapon proficiency etc

Dwarf is great and looks the best (to me), to boot!

It did sound like they were addressing weapon issues down the line, but beyond that you should definitely play what you like.

Every version of wow has been beaten by all sorts of races and meme specs, which is awesome. If you want to play mostly pve with efficient guilds, that would be the only reason I see to reroll.

Have fun in Azeroth, and cheers!

You can heal just fine as a dwarf don’t worry about it.

Weapon skill is absolutely massive in endgame raiding, giving like 3% hit. On top of that, 40% of your hits against 63 bosses are glancing blows which reduce your hit by like 40%, and +5 skill reduces that penalty by ~20-30%. So you do like 20% more melee damage at baseline if you have +5 skill vs. not.

They’ve said they want to address the lack of +weapon skill items, but no-one knows if they’ll actually follow-through. If they don’t, you’ll never be able to parse against humans in melee dps because there is only one relevant item in the game that adds +2h sword skill (OEB from MC), and you’ll basically be required to use that forever.

You will be perfectly fine. Nothing wrong in the slightest with Dwarf Paladins. Do not listen to the min/maxing brain rot. The racial skills are absolutely not necessary for anything in this game.

People whine all the time about how “easy” Vanilla is, and yet they continue to treat every little stat and buff as if they’re essential. (They aren’t.)

You don’t have to change a thing. Enjoy your Dwarf, and laugh in the meta slaves’ faces as you continue to be fine.

Though, if we are talking about the active racial skills… Stoneform pounds the human’s temporary stealth detection through the ground and into the center of the earth. It’s a fantastic racial.

Weapon skill is big, but you might build a bit differently with 3% more hit needed. 9% hit not that much, but you might go for a 2h axe.

This is just straight up bad advice if he wants to dps in endgame raids. If he wants to accept that or plans to heal or whatever that’s fine, but he should know going in he’s going to be at a disadvantage if he wants to ret. It doesn’t take a long time to reroll 25, it does take a long time to reroll a 60.

It’s not just the hit its also about the huge glancing blow penalty which you can only reduce with weapon skill.
