So, dragons, dinosaurs and the elemental drakes are all supposedly connected back to elemental ancestors, with the former two specifically being from elementals that weren’t sealed away in the elemental planes.
I never noticed before this new promotional proto-dragon that proto-dragons had small, stunted limbs. Wings in creatures like reptiles and mammals started out as repurposed other limbs, which means at some point drakes, dragons and proto-dragons had ancestors that had six functional limbs…you know, like dimetradons.
Is it possible that proto-dragons and drakes repurposed their middle limbs with their back frills to create their wings?
Are the elemental drakes predecessors to or descendants from proto-dragons like modern dragons, with elemental forces instead of pure arcane forces shaping them that way? If so, why did the body model shift away from four limbs (wings and legs, since the third set of limbs were becoming vestigial)?
Does this mean dragons, drakes and proto-dragons are related to basilisks and crocolisks?

No, they came from elementals. Once spirit got added by Freyja, proto drakes started to pop up. Fast forward to the Titan Watchers changing the proto drake into the aspects and here we are.

Warcraft lore is a build as they go kinda thing. Retcons are central to understanding any of it. I wouldn’t think to hard on this.
Its lore that is already explored. Reading your post was not needed at all.
We have a straight line from Elementals → Protos → Dragons
And what you changed your post to say doesn’t counter my postulating.
Freya set up shop in Un’goro Crater, which is populated with tons of dinosaurs. So that makes it highly possible the line was actually:
Elemental → Dinosaur → Proto Drake → Dragons.
Edit: Further more, the quest with the Western Pylon even gives ties between the Titans and Dinosaurs.
Give us dinosaurs as a playable race!

The titans are literally linked to all living creatures on Azeroth besides the Elementals, and the Old Gods & their minions.

You made claims Freyja experimented on creatures, this has never come up in lore. She helped weave the emerald dream and soon after life sprung forward. If anyone were the experimenter it would have been Mimiron.
