Did Blizzard ever explain why they got rid of Buffs for anyone?

I loved that you could buff random people you passed by with a bunch of classes. Pally and Warrior buffs were enjoyed, just as much as Priest and Mage ones. And who could forget Gift of the Wild?

I know Battle Shout still exists for party and raid members, but Gift of the Wild and Blessings of Kings/Might have vanished.

There was a certain friendliness to just giving out buffs to random peopel you passed by, and while Priest and Mages still do this, Warriors, Druids, and Palladins have been either eliminated or limited to dungeons, parties, and raids.

Was there a reason for those going away? Did something happen I’m not aware of that phased out the buffs you can give out for free? Again, Priests and Mages can still do it, but as intellect and stamina are the cornerstones of all classes, they are allowed to buff strangers.

Does anyone know, or is this a weird mystery?

Gift of the Wild got removed since Blizzard decided us druids have too much utility already.

And then they took away a lot of that utility :stuck_out_tongue:

We still have mark of the wild but it’s… different, and a PVP talent.

I miss the days of standing in Freeport casting Spirit of the Wolf on random people and being a true hero.

The version of BoK and MotW that hunter pets used to give were the gorilla’s “Blessing of Kongs” and dog’s “Bark of the Wild,” and those are honestly the biggest losses the game suffered.

Well at one point, few expansions back I think, they removed all of them, including Priest’s fort and Mage’s AI.

They brought back Arcane Intellect I think in Legion or BFA.

i THINK it was to make these classes less mandatory.

  • IE: We need a druid for MOTW, without a Druid we are suboptimal. Thus we will always bring a druid. Getting rid of this was the “Bring the player, not the class” mentality. It also got rid of some spec specific buffs like Leader of the Pack.

But then later they added back some of them and new ones like DH and Monk buffs to boot, thus fully reverting their stance, but then only sometimes.

Actiblizzion is very confused.

They “didn’t want people to feel forced,” as usual for when they remove stuff people love from the game.

  • Some complain ability too many
  • Some complain Buff are boring because you press it once and forget
  • Some complain because they are force to play that class or they don’t get to raid

I remember the good old days when I needed tonnes of vendor bought candles to cast fort.
The droods had all manner of seeds.
Mages needed a bunch of things too.
They were the good old days.

With Shadowlands, they “unpruned” my Blessings away out of existence…

I really miss dark intent, it was a friendly/non-verbal way of saying hello when out in the world, now i give them underwater breathing and they probably think i’m special in the head lol

Actiblivion?
Sell the company to Google and be done with it. Gmail, youtube, etc ingame.

I can remember leveling a warrior alt and getting plate with spirit on it. That was classic for ya.
Itd be nice if we had the choice to do something with mana, I havent pvpd yet in SL, and will likely quit wow before i do, but the constant battle against oom was obnoxious in BFA. There were times where I wish I could suicide and rez with full mana than have to stop and drink, coz it was that slow and tedious.

Haha this EXACTLY! My warlock hasn’t gotten much play time since MoP but whenever she’s out in the wild, she used to buff Dark Intent on everyone, just like all my other characters do with their buffs. But when they took that away, it felt so sad that to this day, when a priest wanders by and buffs her, she replies with the underwater breathing buff as a kind of fist-bump, always wondering if the day will come when someone goes HELL YES FINALLY UNDERWATER BREATHING BUFF.

And then she goes off to cry quietly in the corner, remembering the MoP good times.

They claim it is to prevent feeling like you need those buff classes…

Then they add class specific debuff abilities that makes those manditory thus turning themselves into complete hypocrites…
They make no sense truely.

So you’re the reason for all of this endless Autumn?!

Mark of the wild. Gift of the wild was a tome in vanilla that allowed you to buff an entire party or raid, before sitting down and drinking because it use up all your mana.
