Did blizzard break elitism helper?

I haven’t seen it pop up in my chat in a while now and it makes me kinda sad. I miss the end of dungeon report… and the ability to toggle on the announcement any time some dps takes bad damage for particularly bad offenders who blame me for their deaths…

There is an addon specifically designed to harass and shame people?

How horrible.

I prefer to think of it as “gentle encouragement to be careful”.

As someone who has almost exclusively pugged as a healer for over a decade… I laugh at anyone who wants to complain about “harassment and shaming” over bad play when healers have spent years being blamed by dps for their own failure.

Blizz didn’t break it. The addon author hasn’t updated it since November.

Ah, sweet then, there is hope.

So an addon titled “elitism” is for “gentle encouragement?”

I’m not poking at you specifically, but that sounds a little contradictory.

I’ve healed in the past, I know the woes that healers have had to deal with. Best thing to do, don’t reply to them. Do your job, say your "hello"s and "thank you"s and be done with it.

i saw it, or something like it, a day or two ago. there’s definitely still something like it.

most people i know think it’s funny when somebody is running it. in my experience, the person running it is almost always the person who dies the most and takes (by far) the most avoidable damage.

Wth??! An addon to shame people? By probably elite jerks?!

it’s a joke. tongue in cheek. like a guild named “elitist jerks”.

I guess that’s… ok.

I just can’t imagine how frustrated someone would have to be to create an addon to harass people.

I mean, there are enough things to deter newer players or people trying to improve themselves that we need addons to exacerbate it?

Man, the hole is getting deeper.

As a healer who has been pugging since BC… I don’t see a reason to call people out. If they yell at me, I just tell them I can’t heal through whatever they did. I see no need for this type of behavior. It just breeds toxicity all around. People will get offended, arguments will ensue, etc. It’s not worth it just to prove you’re right and they’re wrong and they suck at the game. But that’s just me.

By this point, probably not.

Very well said. No reason to fan the flames.

If you feel it necessary to explain to them… do it once. “You keep standing in the green AoE”. If they keep doing it and complaining to you, do not waste your time banging away at keys trying to explain further. Eventually, they’ll get it, or natural selection will take its toll.

it wasn’t created to harass people

Or I just let them die and learn the hard way. :smiling_imp:

Well, that may not have been what the creator was thinking in their head when they were making it. Years ago, someone suggested in another forum sub-section that the game should call people out. He actually said the game should say things like “So-so is being stupid!” or “So-so is standing in stuff they shouldn’t”. He said he was only suggesting it to help.

I was being sarcastic… I have it specifically because I got tired of DPS whining about dying when it was entirely their fault and shyting on me. So I got this addon to pre-empt their complaints by automatically calling out their failures before they can try and pin it on me.

I didn’t know the actual name, I just called it, “the tattletale addon”.

That still sounds like fanning the flames.

I know this is going to sound rude and please believe me, it’s not meant to. But there are far more incompetent people in the world than there are competent. It’s their own job to improve their competency. By highlighting to them that they’re incompetent, especially unsolicited seems more antagonistic than anything.

As a rule I have it set to only report total amounts of avoidable damage at the end of a key. More for curiousity and fun.

But if some DPS who keeps dying because they stand in the bad starts getting mouthy with me, THAT is when I turn on the feature that reports it in chat every time they take avoidable damage. Just takes the hassle out of me having to explain basic concepts like “don’t stand in the fire and you won’t die” by having it automated for me.

the people this addon is intended to help are the ones who don’t even know why they’re dying. pointing out why they died isn’t antagonistic, it’s informative.
