Did Blizzard bite off more than they can chew?

With the extreme level squish in one expansion?

They created more work problems by doing it because they have to go back through years of other expansions to adjust mobs to the level squish too as well as gear.

From level 120 to 60 in one expansion seems extreme to me.

Gonna take a lot of adjustments.

Not really. The change is purely cosmetic and everything retains their stats. So lvl 50 Arthas >>>>> Lvl 50 Rag.

I am pretty sure they did given what beta looks like at this stage.

They changed almost nothing frankly.
It basically takes two to three zones to go from 10 to 50. Then you do shadowlands.

What else were you expecting?

They’ve got the scaling technology worked out pretty well for the majority of the older zones. The gear and things are still wonky (along with some phasing in mixed zones where expansions have overlapped for questing hubs)

My point is they are bound to have overlooked a least one important change that needs to be done in game.

Like what? It’s all just squished by some algorithm or something.
It’s not like they turn the knobs by hand or every single enemy.

Realistically this is the least of their concerns. Leveling is not something that is meant to be balanced or perfect in design. It’s the one area they can slouch without people freaking out.

Acknowledged. Was just speculating.

What do you think would’ve been more appropriate? For us to decrease in levels at the end of every expansion, rather than just one? This time, we go from 120 to 100. Next time, we go from 100 to 80… and so on.

Seems to be way more work that way honestly.

Things are bound to be out of whack for a little bit - this happens even with the stat squishes. Someone brought up earlier that after a stat squish, Garrosh was demolishing them.
I’d imagine that anyone that is out of balance after a squish, they probably just apply some blanket “reduce HP and Dmg by 50%” or something until he starts getting one shot again. Doubt they spend too much time on it.

Blizz, in general, doesn’t do a good job in making long-term systems. We can see this with how they keep playing catch-up with player models, stats/gear/level scaling every other expansion, and a lot of features that become obsolete within a few years. There’s definitely an issue in scalability, and if WoW releases another 6-7 expansions, there’ll be multiple more squishes we’re gonno see.

Yes.

Level and number squish rolled into one? It is going to be a chaotic journey. Be prepared. :100:

People will miss the big numbers for sure. Healing 1k is not as exciting as critting 1m heal.

Eh I never liked those large numbers.

You didnt read OP issue/question, right?

As long as it doesn’t feel like I’m hitting monsters with a wet noodle or that I feel weak as i progress through leveling (like it was from a geared 110 with legendaries to a weaksauce 116 and so on).

The level 120, the HoA essences, the corruptions, to name a few, have spoiled us badly.

Going from level 120 to 60 is a bit too extreme. I would have said level 90 so the shock isn’t as bad.

Huh?
I certainly did.

They did not “bite off more than can chew” when it comes to leveling.
It is not content that is expected to be perfect.
It is not now, and it will not be in 9.0.
Nothing to be concerned with.

Go on the PTR to try it out.

It is a lot worse than people realize. No corruptions and essences are down scaled. :+1:

OP main issue was whether they did adjust the damage scaling of older mobs for older content. Razgore fight comes again to mind, because this issue happened in WoD.

Nope :innocent:
