Mount equipment be damned Death knights REPRESENT!
Do you understand how scarcity works? The reason diamonds are so valuable is because there is not an endless supply. If instead of grass in your backyard, everyone grew diamonds, they would be worthless. This is true in all aspects, even video games. Once everyone has something it’s not as valuable.
There is no real value in a video game unless you’re making a hefty living off of it, I’m near certain that both you and I aren’t making a living off this game. Stop treating this game that is rated T for teens like it can be compared to doctors verses McDonalds workers or people growing diamonds in their backyard.
This game is meant to be played for fun, not to be compared or confused with real life.
What’s there to “give up on”? They wanted to solve a specific problem, they put it in to solve that problem. It’s not like they were going to release new mount equipment with better stats every tier.
If they have any particular ideas floating around for new mount equipment, they’ll probably save them up for the new expansion.
So you would want a game where everyone gets every single thing in the game without putting in an ounce of effort? That is the ideal game to you?

You haven’t tried the Comfortable Rider’s Barding yet I see … that keeps you from being “Dazed” by anything! and IMO an invaluable asset
No, like I said, I like setting goals and achieving the goals. At one point my goal was to get the water strider mount, so I got it. My favorite content ever made in WoW was Gold Challenge Modes, which didn’t drop gear at all.

The mount equipment was an asinine change.
They should have been cosmetic items and nothing else.
If I were Blizzard I would’ve actually leaned further into mount families. Water striders can walk across water (add more if you need to), turtles get swim speed (just like squid, fish mounts), etc., etc.
It would be way way way better than “equipment” to homogenize all of the mounts.
