I’ve noticed an absence of a lot that made War mode appealing. There were bounties, supply drops, world quests. None of that seems to be present in Shadowlands. Why completely change the way the game works like just for one expansion? Now war mode is practically dead. You might as well bring back the old server rules if you’re not going to use war mode for anything. There’s little motivation to entice people to do war mode right now. Also, the assassin thing was kind of fun. I noticed that’s gone as well, or activity is so low that nobody gets it now.
It was a stupid idea from the start, they should have left PvP servers alone and disregarded the vocal and very small minority of players that whined about them.
we got bounties/assassins, world quests and a few achievements, but yea i hope they take more from the BFA style of events/achievements and stuff, seemed fun.
Supposedly the first zone in Dragonflight will have a small pvp event as an option to jump between each factions boats to fight but in general War Mode is another abandoned feature.
Evens during it’s…hay day? Should I calls it that? War Mode was both wildly unbalanced and not a whole lot of fun, depending on the server ya were playin’ on.
Take Wyrmrest heres. We’re sharded’ with the folks on Moon Guard, and they’re mostly swell folks, don’t get me wrong, but the number of Alliance on that servers vastly outnumbahed the Horde, and WrA is a Horde majority server. Made it sos either ya left WM on to get farmed, or turn it off so yous could actually play the game.
Frankly, they should’ve just left PvP servers up, ‘cause that way it’s more of a united community that cans better organize how PvP goes instead of it bein’ a zerg fest! Heck, I played on an RP-PvP servah when I started WoW and it was a ton o’ fun! Could make RP-PvP events an’ everything!
I enjoyed it at first because it increased the amount of people out in the open world. I saw servers I never would have seen otherwise. But now it’s just dead. I do think giving people the option to just turn it on and off at will is a little silly. But BfA proved that if there’s something enticing like rewards, even people locked on PvE servers would do it.
As a PvP player, I agree and disagree.
They could’ve made Warmode something much more enjoyable by not placing so many stupid barriers to gameplay (Not being able to see / play with half of your own server) in the way.
That said, Warmode was heckin’ fun in BfA. The battles over warmode objectives were fierce and massive.
Then Shadowlands came along and they did indeed abandon it. But don’t feel bad, they abandoned everything and everyone else besides raiding too…
Maybe cause barely anyone likes world pvp cause maybe ya know ganking ISN’T PVP.
Majority of players just wanna quest/level/do dailies or chill, not to be ganked by someone in end game gear and or someone who’s 10 levels higher.
they also:
-killed guild v guild conflicts by sharding everything and hunting down guilds by shard jumping isnt fun
-destroyed server communities so people become Horde/alliance player #3502347 to you and probably will never see them again, causing rivalrys and reputation to not mean a thing.
-servers started turning to dog water and cant handle 30v30s in open world.
also, ganking low levels usually turned into a brawl and was fun.
The vast majority of those who I know who like WM and WPvP went over to Classic where it is much more alive there. Current WoW is way too big to find anyone and plus all the instant cast flying that some have and the super quick mount ups make WPvP pretty hard to set up now.
People complained about the bounties, etc., so Blizzard removed them. Just as they removed gold from BG loot boxes, because people complained. Then we had people complaining about not getting gold through BGs, just as there’s people complaining about the lack of objectives in WM.
You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
You can enjoy world PvP without being the one doing the ganking. When I was in the habit of almost always playing with war mode on, I mostly avoided attacking people unless they were already in combat with another Alliance player—or, in some cases, I was just trying to be a nuisance to higher geared players that I couldn’t really kill, to provoke them into attacking me and see if I could escape or at least survive a long time
I didn’t play BfA but I kinda enjoyed doing world PvP in Korthia for awhile. Zereth Mortis has been a downgrade
One thing to consider: War mode was made as a cost optimization so they could use fewer shards since they already knew a large number of people on PvP servers wanted to be PvE primarily. PvP shards can’t be shared with PvE shards and thus cost “extra”. There was never any other real intent as best I can tell. If anything its in blizz’s interest for people to not use war mode as it means fewer PvP shards to manage.
Could you elaborate? I can get full tier and normal raid ilvl gear by tagging+afk’ing rares in ZM, running +2 keys, or pvp’ing. If I had to nitpick, it would be that Korthia wasn’t more like ZM with the gearing process.
Granted, pvp may be a mess, but that has been the case since Legion.
But I do agree with Grincel. Blizz should have left pvp servers alone.
Its good for leveling cause of xp boost
At max level its meh
The zones being split so much makes world pvp hard, the rewards are meh, and getting farmed it just annoying
War mode was a godsend because PVP in wow simply sucks and this is coming from a PVP guy that played vanilla TBC wraith only for the PVP part of the game, devs could not balance it for 20 years every expansion you either get one-shotted or you become immortal then the sharding system came along and made things even worse, so giving the option to opt-out from it was the right move from the devs. if you play wow for the PVP I feel sorry for you and you should find a proper PVP game that is built from the ground up for PVP and not as an afterthought, you are not getting the full experience.
It was partly a joke, partly a dig at the state of the game.
Yes, you can get gear, but gear does not equal content, and the actual content isn’t really enjoyable. We had an option for the solo players (Torghast) which ended up being left bare-bones and unenjoyable until much later in the expansion; Warmode with no battlefronts; a weak world experience (utterly uninspired hub); etc.
Real pvpers are competitive and smart, leaving that stuff for a level playing field, which, while there may be problems, generally takes place in arenas or a BG.
War mode pvpers are generally comprised of scum and villainy who “get off” on making other people miserable by only targeting those found in unfair situations, like coyotes do. They’re cowards unless they outnumber their prey by 5 to 1 or outlevel it by 10 to 1. I almost always run with war mode off. The rewards do not offset that headache.
Edit: Out of respect to fairness, I now recognize that posting on an Alliance toon may have unintentionally implied that Horde is comprised of the above, and not Alliance. The issue applies to both factions.
The whole purpose of Warmode is to allow people to opt in/out of PvP instead of feeling forced into all PvP all the time to play on a “good” server or play with their friends.
PvP being only between people who actually want PvP is a good thing regardless of the extra fluff they may or may not have in Warmode.
Mmmm no. You entirely miss the point of why many people play warmode.
I’m a Shaman, I clearly don’t gank. But warmode gives me that sense of danger and liveliness that static npc fights don’t. Additionally, having been a player since Vanilla, I have that nostalgia for the glory days in which we’d have massive 80v80 zone wars over guild rivalries and other silly things.
