90-minute lockout timers for events that, realistically, take between 5-10 minutes to complete depending on the time of day, meaning for potentially 80-85 minutes there’s nothing happening, save for the few poor souls who are desperately farming 1-2 memories per non-elite mob.
What part of this is supposed to entice me to stay, or even continue to participate? Catchup gear is at minimum 2000 memories, so I’ve gotta farm a thousand mobs in my off time. No thanks. This feels like a massive oversight even though I know it was intended to inflate retention metrics.
Surely you can pump up those numbers by… you know… making the event fun? Why not have a respawn timer on the completed event for say, 10 minutes. I wouldn’t mind being able to stay in Searing Gorge, or Dragonblight and farm enemies for 10 minutes while I wait for the event to respawn. Players could then feasibly complete the event 5-7 times per portal, and actually feel like they’re achieving something. There’s no reason Blizzard couldn’t include diminishing returns on the memory rewards if they’re so worried about players churning out redemptions quicker than they intended. But don’t nerf the loot rate because there are too many damn alts and not enough time to gear them all up.
If Blizzard expects me to stay logged in while I wait for that time to elapse, they’re deluding themselves. First of all, the lack of built-up goodwill notwithstanding, the event itself isn’t interesting. Fly around, kill stuff, tag boss, rinse and repeat. Log out for an hour then come again. Pass.
You get 1500 for the weekly and 500 for killing the event boss. So you get a repeatable 500 every 1.5 hours. And 2 pieces of gear from killing the boss (I don’t know if that bit is repeatable yet).
So it’s safe to assume, you won’t be dumping much into gear or spending that much time farming on the side.
I got 2.3k from the weekly and doing the first event. Doesn’t seem awful if you look at the bigger picture.
And once they accelerate the spawn event timers, it won’t be a problem.
I did mention that the minimum for gear is 2000. There are other pieces, such as a weapon, that are between 5-8K. I can’t remember if there are trinkets so I’ll assume no. That means 13 equipment slots per character… it’s just not feasible. Legion pre-patch was fantastic, I think I caught up 9 alts before it was all said and done. This is not the way.
Also, like a bunch of players (probably even including yourself), I don’t have the luxury nor desire to waste what little free time I have to maybe get 2 or 3 cracks at the event before I go to bed after work.
I like the concept of the event, but the execution is lacking. Spawn timers should already be accelerated. This is lame as hell.
It should have been like every other event where they just spawn every few minutes.
Like the cost and currency is fine, but yea the duration is awful. And if you happen to miss it, you are SOL for an hour and a half.
I can easily see a lot waiting until the last week to grind stuff out. No reason to do it now and suffer the 1.5 hour wait.
Or wait a few weeks for it to be 3x faster. In the same time we wait now, you could get the same value you get from the weekly, but from killing bosses.
Im curious if gear continues to drop after first kill too. If it does. I see zero point in dumping currency on it.
I agree! It would be better if there was less time between events. Especially since there is so much stuff to buy, and pre-patch events are used by many people to level/gear alts for the next expansion.
