Did all the DEV's that play Mage quit?

Why is Mage being neglected and left to rott in the C and D tier class DPS?
In the past Mage was always somewhat decent in raids and M+. I know frost is decent with large packs but in Raids .not good
The single target of mage is really sub par. The class is a dumpster fire. The rotations are bad and not fun in all 3 specs.
I Thought a lot of Dev’s played mage and thats why they always got some love and not left to rott at the bottom of the lists.
Mage is just a bad choice right now. Bad to play bring nothing to raids that other classes do better,
Everyone including myself in my guild is just shelfing there mage. In raids frost is below C tier and Fire just as bad. Arcane is not fun to play and now falling.
Things like Blizzard being cast to mouse instead of to target or winters chill being a debuff instead of a buff shows the devs no longer play this class.

They seem to have trouble with casters tuning this xpac. Mage, lock, evoker, balance and sp all had major issues in mplus and raid.

Blizz made stupid choices for Mage. Arcane Missiles now require clear casting and the removal of tempered flames which reduced the cast time of Pyroblast. Mage is supposed to be a ranged class not a melee class. You should be able to destroy enemies before they even reach you, but now they almost always reach you before you can kill them.

EVERY* xpac, but yeah, it’s a hot mess.

Rotation is a hot topic, and many players are unhappy with the current state. I’ve played Sunfury since the expansion launch—didn’t mind it too much, but I wasn’t particularly attached to it either. After the recent nerf, though, I’ve been loving Spellslinger.

What frustrates me most is the four consecutive nerfs to our damage, which have dropped us to a D-tier ranking. Our class, with long and punishing DPS cooldowns combined with a relatively complex rotation, should be competing at the top of the DPS charts. Right now, we’re performing 10-15% below where we should be.

For example, Paladins, with much shorter DPS cooldowns and simpler rotations, are regularly out-damaging the rest of our raid team.

Rotation change in the middle of an xpac is a problem. Damage is clearly important, but play style has a big impact on the enjoyability of a class and spec. The fact that they made major changes to both arcane and frost rotations mid-xpac has really made me want to rethink my class choice. I have played a mage on and off (mostly on) since vanilla. This is the clunkiest I have seen frost and the new spellslinger arcane is just not that much fun, at least for me.

Yeah I play frost mage and while I can put up decent damage I’m not having fun.

I hate chasing winters chill it sucks.

I may just switch to frost DK or Ret, or even BM.

Plus the rotation for mage is like ORB, blizzard, comet, cone of cold (reset) then orb blizzard comet etc…

It’s not unfun but it’s weird.

I don’t want to run up so close to cast cone of cold but its a major DPS loss if you don’t. The reset from cone is a big boost. It sucks though lol

Yeah. I normally love playing Balance Druid, but it’s been pretty terrible. Balance doesn’t have an absorb shield or any appreciable passive defense like we had in previous expansions.

I’m still enjoying my mage, but I have mostly been doing previous expansion stuff on him. I have been raiding on my elemental shaman, and that’s been rough with the buffs and nerfs. Maybe I should learn how to melee.

Right, this 100%, it’s a glass cannon… Blizzard needs to make up their mind, are we frail damage dealers or hardened warriors???

Most mage devs quit a long time ago:
Otherwise they had us brought different +playstyles+ for each spec.

Still sad that the perma pet is gone :frowning:

Wait…

There were developers that actually PLAYED a Mage? I find this hard to believe.

I was always pretty sure that most of the basic, starting classes had been abandoned by the developers so that they could concentrate more on the hybrid and premium classes introduced in later expansions. I would never have thought that anyone at Blizzard had actually PLAYED a Mage and thought that the current state of them is good… :grimacing:

I know that in previous expansions Mage was given proper consideration and play testing but I thought that had gone the way of the Dodo many, many moons ago…

Interesting.

Thanks.
