Diablo Immortal: A glimpse into WoW's future?

WoW has been out so long, it would be eligible to vote this fall if it was a person.

The sub numbers are worse than ever, and while I’m sure there will be a spike in numbers once the expansion launches, it won’t be too long after that the numbers start to nosedive again.

If we’re reaching a point where there’s not much left to explore story-wise, and the numbers just keep getting worse, it might not be worth keeping WoW going from a financial standpoint.

Enter WoW 2, but in the form of a mobile-focused MMO like Diablo Immortal?

No.

Different genres/audiences work differently.

A glimpse into Diablo 4’s future.

I understand mobile technology is improving. But it is not good enough to compete with current pc games.

When mobile improve in a way when it could have a docking station that lets you connect to a 4k monitor, connect to a Wireless Surround Speakers with a keyboard and a mouse, only then it would be able to compete with PC’s.

Diablo Immortal remain for kids, becoz mobile is more of their default toy. Playing Diablo Immortal on current PC is still a joke. It’s like your PC is a huge cellphone… limited controls unlike Diablo 3. DI is like Double-lite D3. DI simplified the bag becoz using the bag on console controls like on Diablo2R is really very slow and awkward. DI would never feel like the original Diablo3’s hack and slash.

Playing WoW on a small screen on a mobile phone would be a joke. . Playing WoW into sophisticated mobile device to be docked on a docking station that could work like a desktop that could connect to large screens is where the future would go. It will happen in the future but not right now.

WoW 2 wouldn’t feasibly work for mobile. They would (and are) just make a spinoff Warcraft game for mobile.

But the fact is we should probably expect a continued push for Blizzard to move to a mobile market since mobile games make more money than PC and console combined.

I don’t think they will move entirely. Having your eggs in many baskets will always be a good thing, but yeah, I do think new games will be (primarily at least) mobile.

No. People who want mobile games will play other games. They make quick money but not for years and years. WoW is still very profitable according to financial reports. No need to mess with that by turning it into just another crappy mobile game.

IDK Candy Crush has been going for a decade and trumps Activision and Blizzard combined (by a very large margin). That’s not to say I think WoW will become a mobile game (I don’t), but I am not sure if people really understand the reach of mobile gaming.

There’s always going to be exceptions, but mobile games don’t as a rule have a long lifespan.

Fair enough.

Cute typo.
It’s spelled Diablo Immoral*

To me, Diablo Immortal so far feels like the same game as wow, I find myself just doing quests for the story line, but then end up doing a dungeon with 3 other people, so realistically it feels like this is the future model of gaming, the wow model of doing dungeons with other people will carry on into the future of gaming.

I don’t recall doing dungeons with people that weren’t your friends in D3.

What does that even mean? It’s just Blizzard’s version of game design, and by no means “the future”.

would be a shame to ruin their best IP. i wouldnt be that surprised at this point tho

I don’t think there’s going to be a WoW2. Even if there was, it wouldn’t be like the WoW we’ve seen over the years. It’d be something totally different, and absolutely gutted in the name of monetization strategies. You’ll never get a replacement for this game, and every time we get a bad expansion, this game loses more players and becomes more and more out of touch.
