The damage from burning blades currently double dips mastery in that

  1. Chaos strike damage scales with mastery
  2. The actual dot from burning blades also scales with mastery

The precedent is that something like ragefire doesn’t work this way so it’s unclear whether this interaction is intended

Is this to counter-act the dot damage being reset or not reaching full strength when using certain abilities?
I’m a little foggy on the details, but I remember something like that being the case in like September.
Or is this just what happened as a result of fixing that bug?

No the “bug” (we still aren’t sure if it was originally intended to be like this) that was fixed back in September was that burning blades only worked with chaos strike and not annihilation. I believe the double dip bug also existed then but it was such a small percentage of your damage nobody looked into it

I wouldn’t know. Initially they were still nerfing the crap out of them, which carried over from the end of shadowlands, so i quit pretty early on. I went from like 2200 in solos to barely being able to get above 1800. It was a pretty dramatic swing.
