DH 3rd spec....Ranged

A shell of a 3rd spec could very easily be created from the existing Havoc set up. Make demon’s bite and chaos strike ranged instead of melee. Blade dance would remain a “close quarters” aoe, while Metamorphosis would reduce fury cost of eye beam and annihilation, and reduce cool down of throw glaive, which becomes a more important spell in the rotation. Talents could add some aoe flavor to the attacks for dungeon running as a spell like immolation aura would need to empower the attacks from the DH instead of a ring around the DH. This would give players another ranged option that could fill a melee or tank role as needed. Also balances the armor type for ranged a bit better with 2 mail (hunter/shaman), 2 leather (druid/DH), 3 cloth (mage/warlock/priest). Would be easy to see this spec playing similarly to a Dancer in FFXIV.

A chaos dps casting spec would be interesting.

Already got warlocks. This is more of a physical ranged where the chaos/fire empowers the attacks. You aren’t really casting spells as your attacks, but throwing the glaives. The feel of the spec would be similar to a hunter, but a gun or bow isn’t used. Again…think dancer from FFXIV.

No, we don’t need a third spec tyvm.

A 2h scythe spec

When havoc doesn’t look like a spec that was designed an hour before the due date, maybe we can talk about a third spec.

Until then, let’s work on improving the dps spec we current have.

Perhaps somewhat of a healing spec taking the souls of the demon’s and such that are killed and changing it into a form of healing for your party a spec to keep you on your toes engaging yet fun. And also imagine this in pvp nothing like pissing off your opponent when you use his life force to heal one of your teammates knowing that it was your soul that healed the enemy lol.

No blizzard said no because healing spec goes against what DH’s are all about.

Healing doesn’t feel like it would be what a DH would do even if they could

However a 2h scythe spec. Would be interesting imo, and we havw seen dh’s in Legion using scythes

Havoc never felt like this to me. Is it simple but look at other classes there are quite a few that were very simple. Look at arcane mage it is literally a 3 button spec.

One problem i do have with havoc is they are having us use a movement cd for dps. That should not be a thing. We should not have to use a movement cd to have better dps

Have a spec based on taking demonic traits and abilities. What happens when you push too hard into fel power.

Think they call that “the demon hunter class”.

We saw what happened in the opening quest line.

Why would fel not be a form of healing? Serious question, because I don’t know the lore. Seems Gul’Dan could have bent it to healing if he wanted, not sure why a new Fel Cultist DH class couldn’t be added. Ranged DPS seems to be the easiest answer but then we get in the boat of one viable DPS spec forced play like so many dual or triple dps specs face.

I would vote for a fel style healing spec. Fel Font, Fel Infusion, Meta Form life transfer, Fel Bubbles for absorption, Sacrifice (you guard a player and if they take a shot that would kill them you sacrifice a charge “soul shard” to keep them alive)

There’s a lot to tap into

I’m not doubting that a healing spec could be developed, but having “one viable DPS spec” is a product of balancing. As players we should be able to play whatever spec we want/feel and not have to worry about numbers, but there is currently only 1 physical ranged DPS in the game…hunter. A ranged spec for DH would give an alternative to that. Rogues could also get a ranged spec: throwing knives, ninja stars, blow darts (poison), etc. Healers have a variety of playstyles: druid (hots), disc priest (shields), paladin and monk (melee-ish aside from the caster version of MW). Even the aesthetics of the healing specs is different enough that class differentiates that and even specs in some cases (like disc vs holy for priests), and DH healer would most def have a different feel to it, but if you want to play ranged…you play a caster, or a hunter, and hunter alone feels too limited, even with two specs (for ranged).

I would be fine for ranged, I just think an absorption style healing spec would be more interesting and blizzard could embrace absorptions more strategically in fights instead of nerfing disc halfway through all the raids. Plus monk pally and druid have a healing spec as a playstyle which is why they are popular.

meh
how about melee based healer like warhammers warpriest and dok?

you everytime u deal damage that damage is tranlasted to healing

Ranged physical would be preferred, would also fit in with the mobile themes

I’d like a Ranged DH spec so more than 1 Class uses Bows/Crossbows/Guns.

I d like to see a demon hunter with a bow! Make it a ranged bow + spells spec enhancing arrows and calling down fel fire rains (equivalent of eyebeam)

Add some interesting hooks in the rotation. Having another class use bows is good for the game as well.

What of a chaos… healer? Dun dun duuunn. =X

I think a Glaive throw focused ranged spec would work - try to steer away from conflicting with Warlocks… they might feel like we continue to steal things from them.

More specifically how this could work is having a few tracks around throwing glaives and picking them back up, distance to target, etc. existing Havoc abilities could be tuned or used thematically (i.e. Momentum for some sort of glaive throw → random bounce location → pick up → gain damage → gain movement speed boost on pick up).

I think the key would be having abilities like Spirit Bomb (something that sucks in fragments) be retooled to retrieve glaives. There’s a lot of opportunity to create something like a robust version of League of Legend’s Draven playstyle that could fit nicely in a ranged version of havoc basically.

I’d limit the spell casting to Eye Beam/spirit shard collection effects and avoid true ‘casting’ of spells. If you want to be a caster, play Warlock.
