DF/TWW Season Length, Class Balance, and Patch Cadence

Put bluntly and straight to the point - seasons last far, far too long. This has been a problem since Shadowlands but their decision to break up major patches until several smaller patches (starting in DF), at least initially, did help people feel they had more to do.

Unfortunately, I think the illusion has worn off and players are beginning to see that seasons are still lasting around half a year despite the appearance of regular patching.

The reality is these minor patches we are getting generally don’t introduce enough content to keep people playing or invested until the next season. One need to look no further than the siren isle patch, which contained around 10 hours of content (outside of the longer range rep rewards which only interest a small percentage of the player base). None of my friends even bothered to return for the patch.

I’ve also personally noticed significantly WORSE balance in TWW than prior expansions (I’m coming at this from a primarily PvP perspective, but I know meta comps have been a hot button issue for M+). We’ve had instances of certain classes being hilariously overtuned and changes are sometimes not being made for months despite the appearance of weekly hotfixed. Even later in Dragonflight saw some classes being very overtuned with no changes made.

TDLR: don’t know what everyone else’s opinion is but if we could shorten the season length by even a month, I’d gladly sacrifice a x.5 or more likely an x.7 patch to do so. These patches are ultimately so inconsequential in terms of gameplay and rewards that I think ultimately cutting them would result in us not only get faster seasons (which people do re-sub to play) but possibly also more time for developers to further develop quality seasonal content and better balance classes. The breakneck speed of development for marginal benefit at best just frankly doesn’t seem like something blizzard can handle and deliver desirable and quality content.

They can achieve the same smoothness of story delivery by simply including these story quests in major patch releases and unlocking them at a date down the road, similar to how raids typically don’t open on patch day of a new season but are delayed a week or so.
