EDIT: ADDED ICON VISUALS
Okay, I have created a mock up of my design for the Dragon Flight Survival Hunter Talent Tree v1.2. I am not a graphic designer nor a class designer. I just love Survival Hunter and see some glaring problems with the tree that I am trying to tackle. As such, please no flamerino. I would love your honest feedback as I have been searching through the forums for suggestions and edits that people have thrown out there and want to hear what you have to say.
This v1.2 cuts down on the 3 point bloat to reflect several other dps trees that have been made available. It also outright removes and adds different Survival Hunter abilities and passives from different expansions to make the play style more engaging. I have also rearranged different nodes to more interactive locations and for a more logical pathway for them.
Old Tree Nodes: 32
New Tree Nodes: 33
Old Tree Maximum Point: 58
New Tree Maximum Points: 55
It’s not much different but it’s a work in progress.
Below are my design comments on the tree going from top to bottom, left to right.
-
Right off the bat Raptor Strike/Mongoose Bite Choice Node:
It makes little sense to be forced into an ability that some would later replace for an additional point. Get it out of the way early and choose your play style. -
Lacerate: In place of Ferocity
I fully believe that Survival is desperately missing a core ability. Is it Lacerate? I think so.
In this tree Lacerate will be used to supplement pet damage with things like Bloody Fangs (more on that later), Deadly Duo, and Mortal Wounds. This removes the flat and boring pet %damage increase in favor of something more engaging. -
Bloody Fangs:
This is BFA’s Azerite power Venomous Fangs reworked to interact with Lacerate. Basically pets basic attacks do more damage when the target is suffering from Lacerate instead of Serpent Sting. I made this a 2 point Talent with each point spent increasing the damage. This is also a talent that does not feed into other talents so as to not force you into that play style, -
Predator:
Down from 3 points 8%,16%,25 to 2 points 12%,25%. -
Improved Harpoon:
Merge Terms of Engagement with Improved Harpoon. Made it a 2 point talent and decoupled it away from the rest of the tree to put it inline with other dps spec designs. -
Flanking Strike:
Moved to the old Mongoose Bite location. -
Aspect of the Eagle:
Moved Aspect of the Eagle from bottom left of tree and moved it to the top. Also decoupled Aspect of the Eagle from the rest of the tree making it not feel as bad when taking it because it is a choice now not a late tree regret. -
Serrated Jaws
Another BFA Azerite Trait to beef up the options for pet damage in this middle portion of the Tree. 2 point talent where Kill Command has a 20%, 40% chance to do extra damage and give focus back to the pet. When Pet focus abilities is tied to our Mastery, this makes a little mastery feel just a little less. -
Lunge
Changed from 3 point to 2 point. Would general like to see this as a 1 point talent but not sure of how that would change point distribution too much in the later tree. -
Wilderness Survival
Yet another BFA Azerite Trait, this one to replace the old Bomb Expert that reduced Wildfire Bomb cool down. Kill shot reducing Wildfire Bomb cost feels clunky and not dependable outside of an execute window. This 2 point scaling Talent would stream line the bomber play style so long as they are managing their focus and hitting those Raptor Strikes or Mongoose Bites. -
Sharp Edges:
Down from 3 point talent 2%,4%,6% crit damage to a 3%,6% in line with the other dps specs. -
Energetic Ally:
Moved from old spot to be more attainable to the single target builds, lining up with Coordinated Assault and not feel like it is in the way of the bomber builds yet still reachable for them. -
Sweeping Spear:
Down from a 3 point talent 5%,10%,15% to a 2 point talent 7%, 15% to bring it inline with other dps tree designs. May need to be reassessed. -
Wildfire Infusion:
Decoupled from the rest of the tree under the new Wilderness Survival as an optional side upgrade. This was to make it feel like less of a burden to have to grab this in certain specs when not taking Deadly Duo. -
Deadly Duo:
Redesigned - Using Kill Command on a Target suffering from your Lacerate you have a 5%,10%,15% chance of resetting the cool down of Kill Shot and making it usable on any target, regardless of health.
This feels much better in my opinion than the abysmally low chance of getting the original proc from Kill Command Resetting -
Precision:
Down from 3 talent 2%,4%,6% crit chance to a 2 talent 3%,6% crit chance.
Still not liking these passive talents but I personally could not come up with anything better. -
Blur of Talons:
One more BFA Azerite Trait. This one helps make the redesigned Coordinated Assault more appealing. During Coordinated Assault, Mongoose Bite / Raptor Strike increases your Agility by and your Speed by for 6 sec. Stacks up to 5 times. This will also bring back the Birds of Prey into better light, though we all know where that talent sits. -
Mortal Wounds:
Old Legion Artifact trait redesigned for modern times.
2 point talent. Each time Lacerate deals damage, you have a 7%,15% chance to make the next Raptor Strike or Mongoose Bite cost no focus. This should help with dps windows during big cool downs like Spear Head or Coordinated Assault. -
Wildfire Cluster/Fury of the Eagle Choice Node
Yup going to put that out there because Wildfire cluster has been with us since BFA and I dont want to see it leave us in Dragon Flight. Choose between one or the other.
And there you have it. Please review the talent tree with that link and let me know what you think and how we can make the Survival Hunter Talent Tree better in v1.3.
