DF question

So I’m not a completely new player, but I’ve only just had the desire and experience to start taking it a little more seriously (more than roll face on keyboard and cross fingers).

I have beta and I’ve watched videos and listened to guides but i don’t have enough experience or knowledge to entirely make sense of the info overload.

Choice is df main between prot/fury and brew/ww. I get that tuning is a thing, so that aside. Can someone give me the “for dummies” version of how they will differ build and design-wise in regards to m+ in df? Thanks in advance

Prot warriors use their abilities before taking damage in order to reduce it - standard tank. A bit of discipline is required to always have one or two forms of mitigation available for a particular dangerous moment.
Brewmasters have some abilities to use before, and some to use after taking damage to reduce it. Brewmasters also lose very little dps while maintaining all of their DPS, so it’s harder to make life-threatening mistakes. Often you can take a hit, then decide “oh that wasnt so bad, ill save my cd for something later” without risking your life.

Fury warriors have a 3 button cadence to their dps. Bloodthirst other other Bloodthirst other other… it’s a very active rotation revolving around generating rage and spending it on your big hitting ability Rampage. Straightforward, fun, and decently complex to master.
Windwalkers manage an array of short, variable-length cooldowns. (~8 to ~25s) they do this by often delaying ability usage to ensure they have the Chi required to spend big abilities as soon as they are available.

All specs you mentioned have great mobility and useful raid buffs, with warriors coming out slightly ahead with their Rallying Cry

Think Fogfolder said it well enough not to repeat it.

Honestly I would just play since you have beta tanks at max level. Find out what feels fun and comfortable. Honestly with talent design im sure the full potential of either Prot Warr or Brew isnt know. Especially since the hardest thing out is heroics.

Least with Shadowlands, i will say blizzard did a fairly decent job balancing tanks in terms of tankyness. Damagewise BDKs got bit broken towards the end. But in general the balance was good.

Prot warrior got bad wrap because the playstyle wasnt considered fun, and obviously didnt do BDK damage so its participation was low, but look at raiderio and youll see they can do super high content like the other tanks.

So yeah go on beta play what you find fun to play. It is way too early to tell how Brew or Prot will land in the meta.
