I understand that the specializations will come from time-gated knowledge points, but I can’t find any source that says definitively how to level your profession’s base skill. I would imagine each crafted item will yield at least 1 point, and maybe some WQ’s will also grant base skill points.
Anyone know for certain how we’re going to get from 1-100?
Edit: It looks like specialization enchanting will grant bonus skill points (up to +15)
Your knowledge points for specializations are their own thing. Base skill level is gained the same way it is now- by crafting items that are still eligible to award experience. The actual method of getting to 100 is no different than it is now.

Thanks. Any idea if it’s a 1:1 ratio? Will there be Crafting world quests?
Between crafting and base skill, or base skill and knowledge points? It’s definitely not 1:1 on base skill to knowledge points. As for crafting to base skill- it’s whatever it is now. Red will always give you a skill point; yellow will most of the time; and green will get less and less as you near its cap. Some items will grant multiple skill points, just as some do now.
The base skill of professions is really untouched from how it has been for years.
As for crafting WQs- I don’t know.
Nah, they’ve done away with the color system; in the new UI, we’ll have icons next to the recipes that grant skill points. This is why I’m asking these questions here…no one seems to know for certain.
That icon in the new system has a color. Red, yellow, and green. They’ve not done away with it. I’ve messed around with professions on beta, I promise you, that statement is a fact and not a guess. You’re overcomplicating this, assuming things have changed that haven’t.
That icon will not only change color based on its likelihood to grant a skill point, but it’ll show you if it’s going to give you multiple points, by having a little number appear in its corner too.
