Just noted from PTR that Holy’s new cooldowns, Divine Word* and Empyreal Blaze, have no animation effects.
And with all the extra Holy Fires you can throw around, it appears that spell is still using a now ancient animation.
Any other spells crying out for a significant visual update?
*edit: I love that Divine Word: Sanctify causes the old ground effect from the chakra days.

Shadow crash could use an update. It looks like a craggy cone of rock. Where is the wispy phantasmal tail and fluid spectral energy ball you’d expect?

mind spike has no animation also lmao a MMO in 2022 has no animation for its core spells…hilariously bad

this is so frustrating, i’m almost abandoning the spec because of it, i’m tired of seeing only numbers. I always think about quitting, but when I stop to think about all the achievements and the pvp sets that I worked so hard to get, I end up just moving on and suffering in silence. I think that’s what defines being a shadow priest hahaha.
Not enough time to add animations.

Shadow priest has always had awful animations. For the longest time the only way you could tell you had a shadow priest was our mind flay. Now we have mind flay and appirations.
We could definitely use some love in the animation department.

Don’t just complain. Provide examples of animations for spells that assault the mind, lol. I’m sure it’s not easy. I think the gradual shadow blob during Mind Blast is, like, all they got.
There are only so many ways to represent a shadow attack on the mind.
Come on, void tendrils are cool. Shadow crash (was cool). Void torrent is cool. Mind Flay: Insanity is (was?) cool.
You have cool animations. You might find your life gets better if you appreciate what you have instead of complaining about what you don’t. Or at least provide ideas to stimulate convo
Man people like you literally set the bar so low for a multi-million MMO in freaking 2022 that charges MONTHLY subscription. Name a single modern MMO that don’t have a simple animation for a core spells. The expectation is already so low that any animation would suffice. Just make some dark spikes or just reuse the old animation.
“I’m sure it’s not easy.”
“There are only so many ways to represent a shadow attack on the mind.”
You make so many excuses for sheer incompetency. It’s literally 2022 and somehow you think having no animation for a core filler spell is actually acceptable. No other major games would ever let something like this pass. This is why we get bad expansions. People like you just make excuses after excuses for Blizzard.

It’s obvious that this is another rushed expansion. Hitting corporate investors deadlines > game quality

Dragonflight is going to release unpolished. Don’t hope for the best, just hope that it can work in the major aspects of the game (Leveling experience is great, Dragonriding is great, other things as well), because under the hood, there’s rough edges still! The new UI is still having issues, and some class/spec are still very unsatisfied of what they got even if they announced that they were moving on to the tuning phase a couple weeks ago. See the time between Dragonflight release 10.0 until 10.1 as a continuity of the Beta. I’m not saying it’s right, just preparing your expectations.
They didn’t do much work on animations because the talents tree moved around a lot until recently, and that would considered polish (which is something we don’t quite have right now, unless they’re hiding a beta build far ahead of PTR/Beta or they can cram it in last minute.). There was no need to do new animations/spell effects for spells and talent they didn’t know if they would stick around or work out. They could use placeholder animations until we have an animation pass, which would be the bare minimum over a lack of animations.
I haven’t touched shadow in years, but Mind Spike had an animation back in the days, you can still see it on WoWhead? : https://www.wowhead.com/spell=73510/mind-spike#screenshots
Divine Word is without animations. None. Gif: Divine Word. Should use the old Inner Focus when pending/Chakra when consumed animations (https://youtu.be/Dz1koYpNJU8?t=88 , Start a 1:28) It does use ground animation for Sanctify which is still visible with the PvP talent Sanctified Ground.
Power Word: Life is using the hand casting animation of Shadow Word:Death. It’s a nice touch since they’re supposed to be like yin and yang. But it needs a flashy animation on the target. It’s not different between over 35% or below 35% health. Here’s a gif using it on myself. It could use the current Desperate Prayer animation when used below 35% health.

Actually one less. In beta, apparition animations have been removed. No one can see them anymore (At the moment not even the spriest can either).

Are you kidding? are you sure? i did see some videos and it was visible, it was actually been removed?
It’s been removed for other players in dungeons (Was only other players in raids)
That’s not what caused the bug where you can’t see them either though.
What’s likely caused that is blizzard trying to put the speed of apparitions into spell data (6 yards per second) and not working out all the bugs.
We’ll be able to see our apparitions once bugs are fixed, it’s just funny and kind of on brand that it happened at all.
