I can’t post the image because I’m not cool enough, but we’re having a debate in my guild over the characters in the pic.
Was posted on MMOChampion not too long ago (probably on pg 3 by now), and it shows new loading screen artwork of Alexstrasza, Wrathion, Nozdormu, Kalecgos, and what appears to be Ysera. Seems clear to me that the last one is indeed Ysera, but there seems to be a debate, and not just in my guild, that the image is actually of Merithra, Ysera’s daughter.
Ysera in the artwork would imply that we will be seeing more of her, even on Azeroth again at some point (maybe?). I know she’s supposed to be unable to leave Ardenweald without Elune ‘willing it’, so this implication is exciting.
I’m also not questioning the lore or Merithra’s place in it, but the artwork seemed pretty clear to me. Not sure why Merithra would just be a clone of Ysera at this point when she has her own (old) model in game already. I wish I could post the image, maybe someone else could?
What do you guys think? Looking to get as close to a confirmed answer as possible here.
I mean, old Merithra’s model was literally a normal Night Elf with Demon Hunter horns, it’s probably just her with a new model that she took inspiration from her mother.
Some people have said as much, but in the image, she has Ysera’s horns, facial markings, hoop earrings, skin tone, hair color, blue eyes… the only thing different from Ysera is the armor, which could just be an evolution like everyone else’s, like from however she gets out of Ardenweald?
And if that is Merithra in the image, why not give her a unique look to set her apart?
Yeah, I honestly don’t see how people think that’s not Ysera in the image I posted. Merithra’s old model aside, there are just too many characteristics that are different. And I think the idea of Merithra just adopting ALL her mothers physical features for some reason is cheap. I think we will be seeing plenty of both of them, as long as that is Ysera in the loading screen artwork.
Load screen versions and in game versions of characters a lot of times don’t match up to what the in game version looks like .
Ysera of Ardenweald
Not long after we soothe Ysera’s dreams, her wildseed is fatally damaged by the invading Drust - at first all seems lost, until the Winter Queen agrees to spend some of her own anima to save her.
There is only one catch - as she has been reborn into Ardenweald, Ysera is forever bound to that realm. She will never return to Azeroth, and those who she left behind - like her daughter, Merithra - will need to see to the future of the Green Dragonflight without her.
They almost never do. Doesn’t mean that is not Ysera in the artwork. You generally know who everyone is because characters in this game are generally unmistakable. Sylvanas had the DSLs, Varian had that little peanut head, etc, the artwork will mess up proportions a lot. But the horns, eyes, crest, skin tone, hair color, hair style, facial markings… I highly doubt Blizzard ‘oopsied’ that hard between two different characters in official artwork.
Yeah I already adressed this. Blizzard doing their lore shenanigans is not unusual, and Ysera herself left the posibility open in game, when Tyrande got the seed that Ysera said should go to Merithra.
Once again, I’m not calling established lore into question. I just want clarification if that was Ysera in the artwork.
Are they going to retcon Ysera dying and the fact that the Winter Queen bound Ysera to Ardenweald herself?
That’s the only reason why Ysera would be in Dragonflight artwork. If they just wanted to do the original 5 aspects Kalecgos wouldn’t be in the art, Malygos would be.
Aside from Ysera currently being stuck in Ardenweald, what reason do people have to believe that is Merithra? I honestly don’t see where this is coming from.
