I’m a person with severe ADHD, and it is a physically painful experience to be stuck in what I like to call, “Choice Stunlock”
I will AGONIZE over choices that have no meaning and ones that have all the meaning in the world to equal effect and it is MADDENING.
I ask my friends ALL the time with EVERY game, what they think my choice should be.
“What do we need for M+/Raid/PVP?”
“What are you playing?”
“What do you think suits me best?”
“What is everyone else playing?”
It SUCKS, man. It is something that I personally have no chance of escaping, especially while not medicated. Not saying OP has ADHD, but it sounds like he’s stuck in the similar hell of, “How do I enjoy this expansion the MOST. How do I have the MOST fun.”
@OP, if you’re anything like me then you’re victim to the choice stunlock as well. IMO, this is pristine example of perfectionism. You want everything in your experience to be perfect and fun and, “Ahh, this is MY main. Look at them! Look at all my achievements, and gear and this sick transmog. Look at all of my titles and other stuff I care about!”
But you never get there. You never do those things. You whip yourself around, jumping from character to character until you burn yourself out. You all in on one character, only to let the choice anxiety bite you later on, maybe a few weeks or months and then you quit. You quit for a year. You come back and post on the forums,
“What class should I play?”
My advice to ANYONE who has ADHD, doesn’t have ADHD or and suffers from choice anxiety or choice stunlock is this:
-
Spend a LOT less time reading tier lists, or these forums or any forum that discusses class “goodness” or “badness”, ONLY communicate with other people in your chosen class on the matters of spec, gear, strategy, tips and tricks and whatever in a place where the people LOVE the class enough to crunch the numbers and try to be the best they can be.
-
Imagine deeply the roll you want to take. Where do you see your ideal character standing? What do you REALLY want to do, and how can your chosen class help you visualize that goal.
-
Make a character. Make that character look perfect to you. Level it slowly, do NOT rush. Spend time reading each and every one of your motherf****** abilities and talents until it’s drilled into your head exactly what you’re doing. Make a build for yourself, play the game is this RPG has NOBODY to tell you what to do. Grow an attachment to the character, the race, the class, the spec, the transmog and everything else. You need to become this character if you have any chance to developing a bond with it strong enough to not want to throw is away every time you eat **** in a BG and think, "Wow, I was so thoroughly booty blasted by X class, maybe THAT’S what I should play.
That’s it. That’s all I got. Be you, stop reading forum posts here bc it’s mostly toxic, it’s hard to tell what feedback is good vs what is petulant whining(It’s always petulant whining)
Good luck, friend.
