DF Class - DK? War? DH? IDK?

Hey all, Im stuck with this mind numbing anxiety of what class to main before launch of DF. Needing some convincing of what class I should lean towards. I just came back, last played middle of shadowlands.

Looking to get convinced on what class I should lean towards more… Currently I’m down to DK, DH, or War. I know all three of these play differently, but I am stuck. Need some convincing.

I raid and pvp quite a bit.

Any opinions? Thanks

honestly this kind of post irks me.

Why should you need convincing of what you yourself should play?
Why not make that decision yourself on what you like to play?

There are alot of classes yes, theres anxiety, i get it.
But why cant you just enjoy what you want and play what you want instead of listening to other to make that choice for you?

If you cant pick a main then play them all and enjoy them all?

i just dont understand this kind of mindset anymore where people HAVE to listen to other to get their own satisfaction for 15 bucks a month.

Who cares? OP is reaching out to a community in a way they desire to get opinions and feedback about which of his top 3 classes would be best. If you don’t want to participate in that then move along.

To OP, all your choices are similar and strong in DF, it will mostly depend on which flavor and class fantasy resonates with you the most. I would go with DK.

Maybe this will help:

I can’t speak for warrior but I can tell you why you should play DK.

If you are looking for whats best there is no need to reach out. Just look to see which is performing better and go with it.

Sure you can talk someone into playing something, but what if they dont like it after getting talked into playing it? Thats why every person should just go out there and play it, in any capacity just go play them. Make trial characters or whatever else and just go try them out and then see what character you keep coming back to.

But unless they posted on alt characters in the other class forums, this is the only post that they made concerning this. So they would be getting a DK’s and Dk’s along to answer if they should play a DK. So the answer on average would be “play a dk”.

Its not really a fair answer. Go try them out and play what you like. Thats really the best answer to these types of threads.

I’m a person with severe ADHD, and it is a physically painful experience to be stuck in what I like to call, “Choice Stunlock”

I will AGONIZE over choices that have no meaning and ones that have all the meaning in the world to equal effect and it is MADDENING.

I ask my friends ALL the time with EVERY game, what they think my choice should be.

“What do we need for M+/Raid/PVP?”

“What are you playing?”

“What do you think suits me best?”

“What is everyone else playing?”

It SUCKS, man. It is something that I personally have no chance of escaping, especially while not medicated. Not saying OP has ADHD, but it sounds like he’s stuck in the similar hell of, “How do I enjoy this expansion the MOST. How do I have the MOST fun.”

@OP, if you’re anything like me then you’re victim to the choice stunlock as well. IMO, this is pristine example of perfectionism. You want everything in your experience to be perfect and fun and, “Ahh, this is MY main. Look at them! Look at all my achievements, and gear and this sick transmog. Look at all of my titles and other stuff I care about!”

But you never get there. You never do those things. You whip yourself around, jumping from character to character until you burn yourself out. You all in on one character, only to let the choice anxiety bite you later on, maybe a few weeks or months and then you quit. You quit for a year. You come back and post on the forums,

“What class should I play?”

My advice to ANYONE who has ADHD, doesn’t have ADHD or and suffers from choice anxiety or choice stunlock is this:

  1. Spend a LOT less time reading tier lists, or these forums or any forum that discusses class “goodness” or “badness”, ONLY communicate with other people in your chosen class on the matters of spec, gear, strategy, tips and tricks and whatever in a place where the people LOVE the class enough to crunch the numbers and try to be the best they can be.

  2. Imagine deeply the roll you want to take. Where do you see your ideal character standing? What do you REALLY want to do, and how can your chosen class help you visualize that goal.

  3. Make a character. Make that character look perfect to you. Level it slowly, do NOT rush. Spend time reading each and every one of your motherf****** abilities and talents until it’s drilled into your head exactly what you’re doing. Make a build for yourself, play the game is this RPG has NOBODY to tell you what to do. Grow an attachment to the character, the race, the class, the spec, the transmog and everything else. You need to become this character if you have any chance to developing a bond with it strong enough to not want to throw is away every time you eat **** in a BG and think, "Wow, I was so thoroughly booty blasted by X class, maybe THAT’S what I should play.

That’s it. That’s all I got. Be you, stop reading forum posts here bc it’s mostly toxic, it’s hard to tell what feedback is good vs what is petulant whining(It’s always petulant whining)

Good luck, friend.

Perfect post. This choice stunlock happens only at the dawn of the start of an expansion. And in the end, it never matters (the class I chose for my main for shadowlands, I didn’t play, in fact, I didn’t play shadowlands for 3/4 of it’s duration).

Wonderful post!
I specifically quoted this as it’s extremely important, and “can” impact ones enjoyment out of the game.

OP: Try not to focus on “flavour of the month” as you’ll forever be chasing your own tail.

Personally, I focus on a main and an alt.

In the end, ask yourself the roles you’re wanting to run with, and factors which encompass the class (rotation, fantasy, mitigation).

I’ve specifically rejected the option to focus DK and DH to instead play Warrior as I preferred the playstyle of the DPS specs (their differences complement each other), and how the tank spec manages it’s role in mitigation.

I will say that Prot Warrior does look amazing with a shield, and the option to weild a 2H weapon in each hand for Fury is awesome!

Either way its a not a good thing to ask of others.

Looking for the best then you look at logs and make your choice based on that.

If you are looking for fun you only know whats fun to you and asking strangers to pick for you to me is silly. Play them and what you find fun is what you should play.

If you have this ADHD type thing with choice stunlock, then you are most likely not going to stick to any one class anyways and if you could then you would just do what was suggested in either looking at logs or just play them and see what you find fun.

Asking strangers isnt really going to help you. They dont know you, and those that play the class are going to suggest that class so you get biased input that still doesnt really help you. If you just want someone else to make the decision for you just flip a coin, its just as helpful.

And again the OP can navigate this issue however they want, and anyone who isn’t about that can keep it moving.

I’m not sure what your angle here is other than policing what, in your opinion, people should or shouldn’t be asking on the forums. If you’re going to pretend you’re just trying to be helpful, believe me when I tell you your sage advice of “just play what’s fun” isn’t as helpful as you think it is.

Why don’t you just bow out and let the people who actually want to contribute to this thread take over.

One, you arent helping and havent. The OP is just going to get DK bias answers in a DK forum. Thats not helpful.

Also, you have absolutely no idea what the OP finds fun or enjoyable or even why they are looking at these classes.

What do they need convincing over? Whats fun? I find DK and Warrior about equally fun. Whats best? DK is performing better than both Warrior and DH in terms of DPS.

Only the OP can ultimately make the decision and I would say if they are just coming to the DK forum where they are going to get a biased answer towards DK, then they are leaning towards DK and should pick that, but I also dont know if they are swapping characters and asking the same question in other class forums.

And if you are getting choice stunlocked and have ADHD you shouldnt be on the forums seeking help, you should be at the doctors getting professional help and not looking for free help from a bunch of strangers that really dont know what they are talking about.

So ultimately its still the OP’s decision. So why dont you stop acting like an arbiter of what should be said and who should be saying it.

When you raid, do you tank or dps?

DH only has 1 dps spec if you play dps, but does have different builds. It brings raid utility, great for mythic plus (arguably the best melee dps for mythic plus) and is doing great in pvp. It is a fast play style, but can get old as even with the new additions, its rotation is simple. (Which may or may not be a plus). tank DH is doing really well and is tankier than it has ever been.

Warrior used to be my main, and I was on edge about rolling it until recently. Prot warrior is in the best place it has been in years. Feels great in mythic + and does good in raids. Warrior in general also has nice raid utility with commanding shout and of course the extra AP for the raid. Dps wise, fury is outdoing arms overall for higher keys because it has better survivability. That being said, Arms feels great and does some stupid good execute damage, which will be great for some raid fights. So with warrior you can easily switch between arms or fury as you want. PVP wise, warrior has so many different comps, you will easily find something you could roll with in arena.

Blood DK imo has a higher skill cap this time around compared to before. It has so much self sustain it is a great tank for raids. In mythic plus it will do great once you learn to play it. But the current best performing blood spec revolves around DND, and standing in DND feels like a pain at times. (Blood is my favorite tank).
UH DK has been my fav dk spec since, well forever> I can tell you this is the best UH has been in what seems like forever. Great builds to choose from and it feels fun. It is doing great in pvp as well. DK though, brings little raid utility. Grip is huge on some fights, but not always needed.

Frost DK feels more like how arms used to feel. (if you go 2h) Big big damage. Or you can easily go dw breath spec and have a completely different play style. In pvp frost is doing good, but I think UH is better personally.

Hey guys, I’m about to buy a years supply of ice cream as it’s on sale and I’m moving way up north.

I can’t decide between choc, vanilla or butterscotch. Which is best?

In all seriousness nobody can make this decision for you. It’s all personal preference. If you really don’t care between the three see what your raid team needs most.

hi
fellow crippling ADHD sufferer here

this is called executive dysfunction
it concerns your ability to easily decide and make choices, as well as starting and finish tasks, and basically comes with the ADHD package by default
i know you may not have asked, but i like sharing this little tidbit any time i see anyone with the same problem because i absolutely hate this aspect of ADHD
i just wanna make a choice man, and my brain refuses to rub the two braincells together to just pick something

Holy cow. This is like the greatest post ever. It is not hyperbole when I say you just changed my WoW life. I am that person EXACTLY. I spend more time out of game trying to find the perfect spec for me than I do playing the spec in game.

You put into words what I could not and nailed it. and your advice to minimize my struggle was great also.

I have literally lost sleep the last 2 weeks deciding on my DF main and it’s so freaking draining. I have created every level 10 spec, logged in and viewed the armor for each one to try and help me decide… nada. I read every Class Forum to help me… nada. I actually feel further away from a decision and as I said above, I am drained and the expansion hasnt even released

I am going to do this when I wake up. Exactly this. I will decide tonight on my class to start at level 10 (All my characters are Zandalari Troll) and not look back. I have ALWAYS boosted immediately to 60. Never once leveled a toon. I think that is a huge reason I have become so unattached.

Again, thank you for this,. I truly felt alone and confused and thought it was just an issue with me.

and just to add. I have 8 separate Bnet accounts. 8 different logins. Many of those Bnet accounts hav multiple WoW instances (WoW1, WoW2, WoW3). I actually have an Excel spreadsheet I use to keep track of everything from login info, to quest completions, to armor sets (and which ones are missing what piece), mounts etc etc… its rather pathetic lol. I even have a spreadsheet with daily and weekly “targets and goals”.

…and, I do all of that and am still founder of a company with 150 employees in 4 countries and work 60+ hours a week.

PEACE AND HIGH-FIVES

I’m glad you found some value in what I said!

Good luck, friend. I have deleted nearly every “free boost” character because they just mean nothing to me. There was no journey with them. Appreciating certain animations they have, no time to notice little quirks they do when idle, or whatever. I don’t roleplay or anything but IMO, it’s nice to develop these little moments.

You sound like a busy person. I’m not that busy, I was just laid off so I’m looking for work. I have a lot of time to sit down with myself and really flesh out what it is I want to do next in career or in hobbies and WoW is a big part of that.

Enjoy the journey!

I like how most of this post isn’t about how to help the OP but instead debating why we shouldn’t lol.

I’m not stuck so much as keeping my options open right now, I’ve leveled up one of every class just to have those options.

Of the three you mentioned my ordering is:

  1. Warrior
  2. Death Knight
  3. Demon Hunter

Warrior is the top choice I think because of the following factors;

  • I don’t expect to find many others in the raid with me, I am likely to be the only Warrior
  • Plate wearers in general will be the least part of the raid.
  • Raid utility is much easier, directly applicable without needing someone to die (Brez) or a specific target to require a grip that needs to be targeted.

Demon Hunter is the bottom choice due to;

  • Momentum
  • Momentum
  • Momentum

The Momentum talent being a mandatory option (it’s mandatory if you lose 8% DPS not taking it) ruins Havoc. No amount of S+++ tier DPS can make up for how bad it is to constantly be working out where/how to Fel Rush. If you’re not familiar with DH but are with Warrior, imagine if the top DPS rotation was to Heroic Leap out of the fight, then Charge back, but you do that approximately every 10 seconds for the entire 4 to 15 minute fight. That’s Havoc Demon Hunter.

Best post i’ve seen describing this ever. I suffer from it. Ive been struggling for weeks myself. I’ve spent SO much money over the years moving alts around, boosting, etc, just because of this.
