honestly with the 2 week lockout and how quick it actually is to lvl and catch up alts its probably faster to just lvl a new toon if you want to switch covenants
But that’s the literal whole point of this entire system. So that you HAVE to make a choice and that it feels semi lasting if only for a couple years. That it’s important. Not just something you can swap in 2 seconds.
They let you play with each one before you make that choice so you can feel what you like best and leave it at that. And hell they even back tracked and made it possible so you can change covenants if you want, it’s not quick and lord knows with all the crying come 9.1 they’ll make it quick but its truly just a different game system that they want to try out. Hell there’s a good chance I might despise it once I actually get to it as well but I’m keeping an open mind. It’s not a game breaking feature. It’s just something unique to the expansion that’ll come and go with everything else in a couple years.
At the end of the day I don’t love or hate the borrowed power systems, but it’s old as this is 4th expansion to use it. It’s time for something new and I’m hoping whatever comes After shadowlands they kind of convert the borrowed power system and add another row in the talent tree so we have a set of “legendary talents” we can spec into instead, even if it requires us to do something stupid to get them. That would seriously feel lasting.
Your making the assumption that the choice is impactfull because of the abilities.
I disagree, the choice is impacfull because of the covenants different aesthetics/politics.
If you took away all the abilities and soulbinds the covenants would be just as impactfull and there would be no whining about how they affected game play.
Two things: first and foremost, the entire point of this discussion is the fact that a lot of people think this system sucks specifically because of this reason. Second, there’s no reason the Covenant system can’t be impactful without marrying it directly to player power.
