Devs speaking out against blizzard

Who isn’t?

Looking at Glassdoor, the ceiling for a lot of non-manager/non-lead positions listed is around $55/hour, which is about $112K gross.

Also, Blizzard is apparently hiring for “unannounced survival game.” ABKHR: The Survival Game?

Something slightly unrelated, but even with the game it self.

If you don’t like something leave, vote with your decision / money / time.

Be it the job or the game. that is the only way something might change, and if it doesn’t, one must find a better place for it self.

The Bud beer lost tons of money because everyone involve with it, decided not to buy it. That single action was costly for that company, and it was the only way for them to at least listen.

Complaining with just words won’t solve anything, now people often do it, just because in the bottom of their mind, they know they’ll have a hard time finding a new job, and it has nothing to do with the “i love the game, but”

Bad idea. They would be too busy whining about M&Ms and Bud Light to get any work done.

Glassdoor isn’t reliable for software jobs. You need to look up levels.fyi

Literally this. Saving on commuting helps a lot. It’s also the cost of eating out, the mental drain of commuting, and a lot of pockets of time wasted while in the office.

Also people like to comment on WFH being bad for socialization but my team gets together every month or so to just hang out. It feels more meaningful as well because there’s more to talk about.

Mine is in his 40s and he was very upfront with me during the interview. 0 BS, gave me the good and the bad, and on the first day of work he was like “you decide if you wanna come to office or WFH.” I was like oh wow I made the right decision.

They literally hold tours of the campus despite the security. Just because a public building has security doesn’t mean it doesn’t interact with the public.

There is plenty of research out there, all easily found through google scholar, that shows otherwise.

But sure, continue advocating for the loss of talent due to stubborn, out of touch management policies. These people aren’t quitting and going on unemployment. LinkedIn is like tinder for IT folks. They are getting bombarded by recruiters left and right every week. You can find countless threads on reddit about people willing to take pay cuts, even, to keep hybrid or full WFH schedules because of the time/cost savings on cutting out a commute.

Yea, these people you’re defending can’t even handle a hybrid schedule, apparently. But sure, these poor, underpaid, slave-working developers have to actually travel to work.

The horror. The sheer unbelievable horror. The poor things.

I fail to see how this is relevant. I am a Civil Service shop and can be fired at any time. And since I am management I do not have a Union behind me. I work at the pleasure of a Board of Trustees who are unpaid, citizen volunteers. Their expectations are high and I deliver, so I retain my employment.

But do go on in your assumptions.

Those are insanely limited… Blizzard is not run like a tourist attraction. Have you been there? Have done any tours? That is not part of the day to day game development environment. The tours for the public don’t even go into the game dev spaces. They go to the museum, library, courtyard, NOC viewing window, cafe. The public does not go into the actual game spaces. For that you need to be on a very different list with a personal reason to be there.

Yeah, tours are rare, and not part of making games. If Blizzard can’t show off their office space, the world won’t end. It had nothing to do with game development, and loss of it would not either.

Their big “public” interface in person is a once a year Blizzcon.

It’s funny how bitter you sound just because some people have better perks than you.

Whether you like it or not, Blizzard is losing talent over this, which is the real concern.

These people are quitting because they’ve already found better jobs.

Socialists would find ways to make the workers happy to keep up production than what capitalists trying to be greedy and think its a infinite work force that willing to bend over as they being gaslighted that they is valued until A.I takes over soon anyway. Denying that Marx never studied late stage capitalism and seeing the rotten fruit bloom today is a joke.

No, I work from home as well. I just don’t kick and scream and tear up when RTO comes around. It’s a privilege, not a right.

This person you replied to doesn’t seem to have a clue about much, looking at their replies. Because I am “government” I apparently don’t know how the world works. They love to come out with one sentence quips like “How is 275L bad pay” or “WFH people aren’t more productive” with no actual data to back it up.

Ignorant troll gonna troll I guess…

You mean shipping them the same computer they’d use in the office and paying for their broadband connection?

Boo hoo they gotta go into the office like 99% of people who work any other jobs. Snowflake culture to the max :snowflake:

Looking at levels.fyi, again, Blizzard isn’t awash with positions pulling down a quarter-mil every year.

Title, Median Total Salary
Software Engineer, $143,592
Product Designer, $138,000
Product Manager, $137,000
Business Analyst, $127,750
Human Resources, $117,045
Program Manager, $212,160
Project Manager, $169,150
Recruiter Salary, $94,525
Technical Program Manager, $120,600

Given that the levels.fyi figures include bonuses - and we know those got cut almost in half in the conference call in February that made very few Blizzard employees happy - their higher-end estimates might not be accurate.

Finding a better job isn’t “kick and scream and tear up.”

These people aren’t quitting without something else already lined up.

Wow this is trash. Is that total comp?

That’s very low for the area.
