Devs, please be serious!

I am genuinely lost for words… do they just not understand what the word “reduced” means or!?

  • We’re also giving Arcane’s area damage some help, since they’ve been struggling in dungeon content.

  • Arcane Barrage damage reduced by 20%.

  • Arcane Missiles damage reduced by 20%.

  • Arcane Blast damage reduced by 20%.

  • Arcane Explosion damage reduced by 20%.

Yeah I’m not really loving any of it lol. Fire just wasn’t optimally consuming hot streak so they fixed that by buffing Pyro at the expense of our other (checks notes) two baseline spells. Sure, I guess we cast Pyro now, but will we if the spec remains so horrendously boring and lacking for buttons?

I was going to just run frost but I can’t keep up with whatever they’re trying to do with this nameplate debuff counting game. Just turn it into an easily-trackable personal resource already.

Getting dejavu from when they heavily nerfed arcane at the start of The War Within, then buffed its damage later through the seasons because they were heavy-handed.

I think it’ll be the same here. These nerfs are royally terrible. ALL mage specs got hit. So, the people that argue “we are glass cannons”, are now even more disillusioned.

Our damage got nerfed.
Our survivability got nerfed.
Our kiting got nerfed.

What is going on? lmao

Wanted to write the same. So we are squishier now than most Ranges, but Deal even less DMG.

We cannot heal us anymore and our utility spells are also nerfed.

Dunno which Ai is making this changes, but its Bad and has no clue.

You guys keep saying fire lost buttons, but what did it even really lose at this point? Phoenix flames? Okay. 1 button.

But before, you used to rarely cast fireball. So effectively fireball was 1 button you didn’t press. You just spammed phoenix flames, fire blast, Pyroblast back to back. And rinsed and repeated that with shifting power.

Fire was not hard before the rework. I’m sorry it just wasn’t. The “hard” part was the dramatically high APM which has been dialed back a little and managing the punishing CDR. It wasn’t that it had more buttons or was overtly more complex.

Just seems like the narrative is “prune bad, midnight bad”.

If you played Frostfire SKB (or SKB prior to TWW), there was a huge minigame around ensuring you had something up for every pack. You tracked your stacks, you blew PF/Fireblast as needed to get there while ensuring you still had them up when you got to max stacks. It was dynamic and fun. Sunfury also had a game of using as many PF/FB charges to get Kindling CDR while making sure you had enough up for Combust. Either way: you were actively trying to get back into Combust outside of Combust. Now, you’re just a wet noodle on a 1m cooldown. Yeah, it was more engaging (albeit punishing)

We fundamentally disagree on what makes fire fun then. I like huge pyros. You liked the unholy game of chasing CDR on combustion. I can’t say I agree.

And it’s not just that but they literally don’t seem to know what they’re saying/doing. How do you say “we want to give Arcane some help in the AoE department because we see they’re struggling” in one sentence and then proceed to list massive double digit nerfs to every single AoE spell the spec has in the next sentence!?

Like… can they not read or, wth!?

Speaking of damage, I made a thread about tool tip damage saying one thing and then actually hitting for something else in the open world.

Maybe these were a prelude of the nerfs to come. Spells are literally hitting for half their tool tip damage into open world mobs. Arcane Blast says 13k damage, but the yellow number says 6k, as does the combat log.

I don’t understand. Was there some blanket nerf to all outgoing damage? The damage is fine in some instanced combat. Even switched specs, logged off and back on, and damage still half there.

Not just me, right?

I kind of wanted to play my void elf arcane mage for Midnight but I dunno I may have to stick with the Druid

I’ll agree somewhat that the loss of phoenix flames feels overblown (though I still think it’s a bad change) but a majority of the criticisms I see towards mage changes among all specs in Midnight I think are valid.

  • Losing Slow sucks; unless you’re frostfire, Fire has no snare. Unless you take Chrono Shift, Arcane has no snare
  • Losing healing based on barrier damage sucks - it gave tremendous value to OP barrier to pre-emptively press it before massive damage to burst your shield before it got purged and get a not-insignificant chunk of healing (though Fire does still get this kind of)
  • Losing healing in block sucks
  • Losing Damage Reduction on Mirror Image and Greater Invis sucks
  • Losing Blast Wave sucks
  • Losing access to Ice Floes sucks

For Arcane specifically.

  • Having PoM and Slipstream share a node sucks
  • Having Arcange Barrage no longer do any significant execute range damage sucks
  • Having Nether Flux nerfed to the point of uselessness and then be removed sucks

I think these are all much more material issues than losing Phoenix Flames and I don’t think they’re insignificant, nor do I think people that criticize the pruning are just saying “Midnight bad” to be unnecessarily pessimistic. Losing all of this sucks and stink of poo poo and stinkies.

I agree with a lot of what you said here. But I also think good things came out of the overall revamping of the game. That’s the difference I think. You can tell when someone is being perpetually pessimistic vs bargaining.

  • Arcane should have Slow. It’s iconic to the spec.
  • Fire should exclusively get active Blast Wave. Even if they changed the knockback back into a slow effect like it was for a large chunk of the spell’s existence.
  • I will miss the quality of life from healing in Ice Block/Ice Cold and I wish that came back. Helps with soloing more than anything.
  • I will miss the damage reduction from Mirror Images. It helped a lot with unavoidable rot damage.
  • I am indifferent about losing Ice Floes. But I am unhappy that we lost it, and then also get the double punishment of a 30 second recharge CD on Shimmer now.

I agree with all the Arcane mage specific points.

Yes, but this is only in PvP and is an honor talent. I used to tag elites or mobs with slow.

We also have zero mobility speed talents. They are all gone! Unless you take the hero spec, Slinger, and get movement speed during alter time, or greater invis speed at 40% for 6 sec. Really lame, at the cost of 3 talent points (4 if you want it at one minute).

RIP alter time reset speed. RIP blink speed.

Sadly, I cannot play my main anymore, I refuse to even log into it. I loved ever part of frost, now its a joke. Arc was interesting fire was high apm but found it boring. Then again every class I have tried is a mind numbing

class to play lol

  • Arcane Orb damage increased by 60%.

  • Arcane Pulse damage increased by 10%.

  • Arcane Surge damage increased by 25%.

  • Arcing Cleave effectiveness increased to 60% (was 50%).

No one uses Arcane Pulse, Arcane Surge damage makes up single digit % of your total DPS in any given encounter, Arcane Orb’s damage could be buffed 600% and it still won’t make a difference because they neutered Orb Barrage, the 10% increase on Arcing Cleave is laughable.

Anything else I can add context to?

Attitude for what? I’m simply including information you chose not to include that is relevant lol. Arcane needed to be tuned down. So did Frost. Maybe wait for the changes to take place, for data to be collected before jumping to conclusions?

No attitude, I didn’t include it because it was not relevant and I just explained why. Sunfury may have needed a slight ST nerf but it also needed a massive AoE buff, something even they acknowledged, but their incompetence is so staggering they actually ended up nerfing our AoE instead of buffing it because they very evidently don’t understand what they’re doing. They’re pulling the levers like it’s a slot machine and hoping to hit a jackpot…

You’re wrong. People are already coming out with orb builds doing insane damage. How about these changes?

Spellslinger

  • Arcane

    • Controlled Instincts has been updated – Cleave percentage increased to 60% (was 40%).

    • Arcane Splinter damage increased by 80%.

    • Signature Spell now increases Arcane Pulse and Arcane Blast damage by 25% (was 15%).

    • Polished Focus now increases Arcane Barrage damage by 25% (was 15%).

Sunfury

  • Arcane Phoenix area spell damage increased by 50%.

Their objective was to reduce ST and increase AoE. Looks like its working so far idk. The tuning was going to happen. Just let them cook geez.

Side note: I totally get where you’re coming from as somebody who was very excited to play SS Arcane in the TWW. They severely dumpstered the spec before we even had a chance to play. However I feel like you could attribute that struggle to balancing the new Hero classes and I feel like they are all finally in a good place now. Stuff takes time.
