Water Strider issues aside, Mount Equipment, as currently designed, is just a bad system. Having a single equipment slot for all mounts per character just makes it a CHORE, not a choice.
It’s basically mount reagents. You took spell reagents out of the game because it’s just busy work and not fun. Please continue to follow this philosophy.
Especially since it seems like you’re designing zones specifically to require things like the anti-stun equipment. As such, please consider the following changes:
Give each mount its own equipment slot.
Keep the WW passive on Striders, but if you equip something else in that slot, they lose WW. That way, Striders can never have 2 effects and be “the best” mount.
Give the same treatment to Sky Golem and other special effect mounts, like the Sea Turtle. If they don’t have equipment, they do their special thing. if they do, they do the equipment thing instead.
This gives players maximum control over how their characters play. And crafters will still be able to sell the same amount of equipment; people will re-equip their mounts because they change xmogs and want to use different mounts, equip all of their favourite mounts, or just are crazy completionists who want all 376 of their mounts to have an equipment on each character.
You’ll have to buy 20+ per character regardless, unless you never change it.
+1 OP, Have a like.
Each mount having a slot with special traits being a “nothing equipped passive” would be awesome. Use this for water walking, that for no daze, this for slowfall…
and give the aquatics under water breathing for their passive!
Why would I change it? On one character I plan on dodging around mobs by walking on water. On another character I plan on just plowing through them.
Now…thanks to you people…I have to buy 47 different water shoes simply because I like to use different mounts depending on my mood. If I want to use a cat on Monday and a moose on Tuesday and horse on high holidays why should I be punished?
No it would not! I have almost 200 mounts. I have 4-6 capped characters. I don’t want to have to buy 1200 items simply because you people can’t commit to a buff.
Honestly! This is why we have communism in this world!
My biggest fear with this equipment, it will only work for current expax and all previous. So when 9.0 comes out and we enter the new expansion, our mount equipment won’t work, and we will have to get the new expac version of the equipment. That new version will work for that expac plus all previous. I just don’t trust blizz to give us this and not require us to continue chasing updated versions with each expac. If that’s the case then the waterstrider should maintain water walking but not be able to equip mount equipment.
Honestly i agree, i think giving each mount it’s own equipment slot is a great idea and allows more mount customization and not have it per character. So i can give my bike waterwalking and my rat mount… parachuting. Cause you know… Choices. I love me some choices.
And my choice is i want to give certain mounts waterwalking, certain mounts parachuting and certain mounts anti dazing. And not just slapping a passive on all of them per a character and calling it a day. Cause that would be lazy.
I was going to do a decent reply, but with this comment you’ve shown that no conversation can be had; so I’ll just leave with the compromise I was going to suggest.
What if there was a character global equipment slot that affected all mounts for that character as stated, but also individual mount slots.
Want one equipment for everything? Put it on your toon.
Want equipment for different mounts and situations? Leave the toon slot empty and use the mounts equip slot.
I think this is where it went sideways. The waterstrider is never going to be the best mount. It’s the best mount for water. That’s it. It held an exclusive value in a place where it probably should have never been. How many mounts now? And only two of them can walk on water? I would add mechanical wings to every ground mount if I could. So that ALL mounts are useful in that space. On water is no different.
The one big drawback I see here is the implementation. I think like the mechanical wing idea mentioned already most of these implements on the mount would be mechanical in nature. So something mechanical for the water like a hoverboard would have been nice. Or giant nets on the feet. Would be cool to see a boar with a hoverboard under it for water walking or a boar with mechanical wings.
My point is that I don’t want to have to buy a separate piece of EQ for each of my 200 mounts on each of my 4-6 capped characters. I thought that was pretty clear.
Sounds like a cop-out. Only one step away from “If you don’t know why I’m angry I’m not telling you.”
Sounds redundant.
What kind of trust fund baby would want such a thing? The only kind of people regularly swap their mount gear are the people who toss out fine china like paper plates and buy a new dog when the old one gets dirty. Not all of us can afford $1000 a month in Blizz tokens to live your champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
That’s not how it works. You attach a single mount ability to every mount in your collection, per character. You have 1 choice of what to use: water walking, no daze, parachute, speed boost. The choice to change depending on the situation comes with a cost: reputation for Anglers for water walking plus gold or whatever the market value is set at for the other crafted items. All the equipment is single use and destroyed when you change.
Being able to put different equipment on different mounts offers more choices for less cost to the player. Except for the guy with 200+ mounts who randomly switches between all 200 constantly.
Out of Curiousity, i checked out my mount count and it was like 229 mounts, but realistically, i have like 1-3 mounts set per character, with the Grand yak and my Blizzcon 2017 mount set as my “special” mounts that all my characters use.
While i’m not able to individually socket all the mounts i have, i still welcome the upgrade to the mount equipment regardless rather then just lazily slap a passive on a character for all mounts and call it a day. You know what i would call that? A talent row. If the task is to just have all mounts be only affected by the character you play and you picked, why it couldn’t be in the talent box really?
You… you don’t. You can’t ride 200 mounts at once, and you don’t NEED equipment at all times. You could suit up 10 or so per char, use those mounts when you need their abilities, and continue on playing mount roulette the rest of the time.
There is no “have to” here except what your neuroses are concocting.
This mount equipment just pissed me off. With all the broken game systems in BFA they spent resources messing with mounts. The same mounts some committed players spent years collecting and in one patch changes will happen to dare I say “corrupt” many of them. Whew I vented.
The Sky Golem needs the same deal as the Water Strider. How they can sit here and say everyone is using the strider too much but not the golem? Give me a break.
I’m tired of having to using a Sky Golem on every single herbalist toon just to keep up with the people who are using them.
Make the herbing while mounted effect a piece of mount equipment!
