The devs in sod have completely abandoned healing and have not even tried to fix it. Priest shields due to soul warding has destroyed any chance for another healer to be competitive in hps or straight up enjoy the game at all since most of the damage is absorbed by their shields.
There have been countless articles on the forums, reddit, and twitter about this absolutely travesty to healing with absolutely no comment from blizzard devs. There also have been no changes even with the ridiculous amount of data and logs about how oppressive priest shields are.
Why have the devs abandoned healing? They make consistent dps adjustments and are clearly working on new content (kara and scarlet enclave), but fully neglect a healing which is also a huge part of the game, make it make sense.

I think the problem is deeper than just nerf absorbs mainly soul warding on disc. Absorb meta tends to be meta whenever high spike damage is commonly the leading cause of death in raids. While healing is meta against constant consistent damage. In SoD the only time ur tank dies or really anyone is due to high spikes of damage that absorbs drastically cut down the lethality of. I think making constant damage and reducing spike damage is the way to go to lesser the impact of absorbs and make healing feel better since there will then be lots of raid damage going out requiring constant raid healing.
Also. Don’t necro threads for interactions it’s very cringe
bosses doing 2k-4k dps is a problem yes, there is nothing to heal. but this is classic, the devs knew there would be little damage going out raid wide and yet still gave priest a no cooldown endless 3k absorb shield (soon to be 5k in naxx). They nerfed pallys divine light due to shield spamming, but left priests untouched. I would love if bosses did more than 2-4k dps, but that’s not the case. the logs have indicated for 3 phases now how oppressive shielding has been and the devs have not address it at all.
Also I will do whatever is necessary to get the devs to notice and finally make a change. I could care less if you think it’s cringe.
Devs have claimed multiple times they don’t look at the forums to make changes. U can talk to most of them directly through class discords if ur in the specific channel for it. However in naxx it looks like there will be a ton of raid damage going out. So very possible that healing is better than it currently is.
Do you know who the dev would be to chat with them? I’m in every sod healing discord, we have reached out to aggrend to no avail. We contacted zirene and he just said he doesn’t work on healing only dps. It seems like there is no dev to even contact regarding healing , you just get crickets or zirene saying not his department
The discord is for those who “help” make the spreadsheets for the sims. You would probably have to contact someone in ur discord who is in charge of that. But if zirene is just brushing it off it probably means he doesn’t think it’s as big of a problem as you guys do. I’m not saying he’s right, but the change to 8pc instead of 12 PC was specifically done for ret paly to run 2 PC t2 with AQ 4pc shoulders. I’m pretty sure they are more occupied with making naxx not a buggy nightmare and not having this goofy sanctified gear ruin the game.
I guess they must have heard us/realized there was an issue. They nerfed soul warding rune from 15% to 10%. It’s definitely a step in the right direction for the devs
That’s a joke of a nerf.
Needs to be far harsher when you are 40%+ more efficient compared to every other healer and “absorb” most damage before it comes into effect.
I agree absolutely should be harsher, but im happy the devs at least acknowledged that it is a problem and have put some sort of nerf in place
You realize that this nerf is just to say “mhm let’s nerf it so people believe they got nerfed”? And proceed by doing nothing after that?
If they are going to have such powerful shields, I feel like it should be on a 2-minute cooldown for PvE.
People should have to think when healing and time things correctly.

Pretty sure the nerf is much more substantial than what was said prior in the post:
Strength of Soul:
Reducing immunity debuff time per heal is down from 4 to 2 seconds.
Soul Warding:
THe base value gain is down from 15% to 10% (Mentioned)
The amount of extra absorb from healing power is down from 50% of hp to 10% hp
The last one is the reason the shields were so large to begin with and will make them considerably smaller.
Wild how people are so salty about this but don’t even read the full nerf.
Shield meta is still going to continue. They needed to bring a cooldown to PW:S. Priest discord crunched numbers and it went from around 2600 to 1700 shields. Play style will be the exact same they will just use circle of healing more. Also now with tier 3 6 set bonus, priests get a 50% buff to shields. This nerf will not do much it needs a COOLDOWN BLIZZARD , to prevent spamming abuse
I think your 50% buff is underestimating the 6pc
Lets get something straight, healer logs mean nill. Competitive means not having your raid die as a healer.
Raids can of course not run a disc priest. Raids can also use less healers with a good disc priest so pick your poisen.
Lastly, I still see mages and pallies do extremely well even againwst bubbling machines.

Sod is new. It is a new version of classic, which means there are mega balancing issues. I am glad they realized that priest shields were a horrible design and nerfed it. I just hope now they have bosses do ample damage in Naxx so there is actually damage to heal.
