Am I crazy or is there zero self-healing or leech on Devourer DH? Talenting a “slow” to Glaive Toss is not exactly a sufficient kite kit for a leather-wearer; how are we intended to survive any elite encounter 1-on-1? I’m having to Shadowmeld when I aggro mobs in the pre-patch event to summon the rares. Havoc seems much more sustainable.

Yeah, glass cannons who are dependant on kiting were always on a huge disadvantage against elites that can’t be CC’d. But now in Midnight seems extra bad with defensives pruned.
I gave up trying. At least DHs have the tank spec I use to solo this kind of stuff safely. My mage on the other hand, hangs for dear life even against common stuff as arcane or fire, given they remove a chunk of defensive utility.
Ofc Havoc is more sustainable. Devourer isn’t any as close to Havoc in good design or self-reliance. Devourer is a spec made to be played in group content where you are not the one taking the hits. It is a good spec but definitely not as good as Havoc for solo content.
Mages have double the range, an actual root (if the target’s not immune), and a big self-shield and can talent into an AOE shield that is also effectively a second charge of personal shield.
Devourer is nowhere near as good at solo survivability as mages, which I had previously considered some of the worst soloers (because depending on the surroundings, kiting can get you massacred by adds). It’s one of the many undercooked things about the spec.
Mages are innately fragile, and the shields just bring their durability on par with other classes, and there’s not an AoE shield anymore… You need to play the class in practice to know what it means. Right now, of course we have an upper hand with the prepatch inflated stats and whatnot, but on Beta, even leveling is a struggle sometimes.
Mage solo survivability was fine in TWW, but it’s nowhere as good in Midnight. Especially if you’re Fire (Sunfury) or Arcane, becaue they took away the only reliable snare those specs had by pruning Slow.
Not that any of this negates the fact that Devourer still needs a big survivability bump.
