Devourer Open World

Been spending alot of time on VH as a second toon for the season. In dungeons so far the void scarred build has been lots of fun. My only pain points are in the open world and delves. Anyone else hating how little AoE this spec has outside of cds? Be nice if perhaps reap was always a cone or something. The main thing im making this post about is self healing though. Why does Devourer not get the big self healing orbs when you kill a mob that havoc does? Those made havoc function in the open world and in larger packs of mobs. Not having them on devourer when aoe farming is already a challenge sometimes really hurts. - also please make shift not break eye beam. I get why you dont want movement with Star, though its annoying, but shift during eyebeam should be okay imo

Ray, eradicate, and star have been sufficient for me. Between kiting and metamorphosis, self-healing hasn’t been much of an issue.

You have to pretend everything you’re fighting is a pvp warrior coming at you

With the void-scarred build and the slow from throw glaive, the mobs don’t even get close to touching me. However, sometimes I unintentionally jump back right into a group of mobs, which is problematic.

You have infinite AOE outside of meta. You can kite forever with VR and glaive slows and mobility. You shouldn’t even need to press meta ever unless it’s a tank enough target, it’s always overkill.

Literally just void ray eradicate over and over you quite literally don’t need to do anything else lol

not sure why they do not give the souls more healing when gathered, 3-5% per i think is fine. that said I would even say leaving them at 1 maybe 2% but make them when gathered also give an overshield similar to warlock soul leech. so the smaller heal and a 3% towards the overshield that last until broken.

devourer feels good but needs big help in the durability department for world content and specially pvp atm.

Open world is not a big deal, but you bet other classes have a better chance at survival than devourer. It’s a buzzkill for this spec, for sure.

Retreat isn’t that great. Ironically, you get more of it on a melee build, not on a ranged one.

Glaives take up precious time within the rotation.

The fact eradicate can only be cast after Vray doesn’t help us much. Not to mention the amount of talents went into it.

If you ask me, better go with a melee build for open world with Vscar glutton. Faster metas and more voidblades/slashes mean better timing between pulls. Meta is everything because everything takes an eternity to die out of meta.

I’m not having much of a problem. I’m using Anni and have Tempered Soul. I spam Consume like everyone else but my goal is to get to Void Ray ASAP. To do this I use TS to speed this up. Once I hit VR, it’s just cycling between VR and Eradicate until I can Meta. Once Meta goes off, I VR then pop TS again to stay in Meta longer.

Maybe I’m doing this wrong. I know Anni favors Collapsing Star and using TS can help but when it comes to the open world I live and die by VR/Erad spam and if the MOB lives long enough I can get a CS off every now and then for some added flavor. Either way, I’m cruising through MOB’s.

This would be too much, we’re at 1% now, 2% would be enough, it’s literally double XD

A more problematic aspect is that the class is mobile but you have to play it statically if you want to avoid accidentally consuming souls while moving, since doing so reduces your Reap/Cull damage because these abilities deal more damage by consuming souls. Therefore, consuming souls through movement is literally a loss of DPS.

They need to make it deal cosmic damage and be introduced into the rotation somehow

i agree 2% is enough but the spec needs more durability outside of just some selfhealing. 2% hp per soul and 3% as an overshield similar to warlocks soul leech so the class can actually take a hit. the 2% alone would not be enough, specially when compared to havoc and the sustain tools it has access too.

yes or make consume apply the slow or throw a small extra glaive similar to the havoc talent for a small bump in damage and the application of the slow. quite a number of things could be done for glaive to actually be in the rotation.

What do you do when you are fighting inside a cave with little room to move?

i have 215 ilvl and even fighting the the herbs from amani zone sucks hard when yous tart with 0 fury. no aoe on demand is terrible. sure once you get going its ok but at the start its dogwater

Devourer is HORRIBLE in open world. Its like playing classic., You get more than 1-2 mobs without meta ready and you can pretty much guantee dying. COmpared to havoc who blows through packs and ends on 100% HP. They need to up the BASE leech of devouerer to 20% and make it 40% in meta. And add some time of shield to reap

Kite back n forth down a hallway.
