With the spec already being under-optimized, the recent 4% damage reduction nerf across the board, with no explanation from Blizzard, really feels like they’re pushing players to abandon it. What exactly do they expect from Devourer? We provide almost no utility beyond a kick or two, and we’re already squishy. So their solution is to take away our one real perk? We were already struggling, and this just makes it worse.
Do what I did on my post Lemix DH, try it, hate it, go back to Havoc and let them see the numbers drop. It’ll fix itself or it won’t but then it won’t be your problem.
I hate it because I genuinely really enjoy my Devourer and the feel of it. They just took a really good thing and dumped on it. We just needed a bit of tuning for survivability and maybe a touch damage increase here and there and we’d be set. I would have been happy with just being less squishy, not even getting a damage increase.
maybe if we ask nicely we could argue Devourer is just a super creepy Shaman and they should be allowed mail armor? ![]()
Anything as long as I don’t feel like a wet paper sack. Small mobs in the open world should not be able to erase me if they wish. I’m pretty sure Mages have better survivability than Devourers do.
I have a full stable of high end Frost mages and compared to a Dev DH they’re easy mode to actually play. Mind you, one misstep and you’re a smear on the grass too…but at least you kind of expect that on a cloth wearing spec.
The spec sims like 1% better than Havoc on patchwerk sims.
Of course it comes with a worse profile and with a way more punishment gameplay.
So you can play it if you want, the spec isn’t useless. It was overtuned before, now it’s balanced.
How was it overtuned? Nobody has explained this, yet we have SPriests with much lower IO in dungeons blowing past Devourers with ease and that was before today’s buffs they got.
It was a simple matter of checking sims.
Blizzard isn’t balancing exclusively with the current M0 performance in mind.
So how are they balancing it with no raid data out yet? There was zero need for the nerf. Someones pet class at Blizz was being passed up and we can’t have that now can we?
Patchwerk sims
Sims are just a suggestion and not what you will see in a real world raid environment. Last nights raids proved my point about devourers being very underwhelming. And it’s not just me.
Saying Patchwork Sim like it means anything. A sim that is basically like a training dummy. No movement or mechanics to worry about. The Spriest thing is real, a guildie with about 10ilvl lower than me would outdps me in every dungeon unless I was in meta, in which case we were even. Out of Meta windows though he blew past me so for overall he killed me.
Feels awful. Might go back to Ret since they just got some nice buffs.
This is the truth. SPriest are so broke right now and they got even more buffs. Devourers are the one of the worst DPS specs out atm, all the guides have been wrong about them.
I just tried Devourer for the first time tonight and I hate it.
I’ve primarily played DH as my psuedo main since Legion and love the class. I felt like I was doing something wrong with Devourer or I just didnt understand the spec. It feels extremely limited and I did not enjoy it.
yeah, I have to admit that the orb minigame doesn’t feel great. BTW, why is there a reset timer on collapsing star if the target dies or whatever? It is super annoying not being able to just start casting it again.
Because Fury decay gets extremely reduced while casting Star. So if it didn’t have that failed cast CD, then you could stretch Meta artificially by casting and canceling Star repeatedly. Which could be cool, but would also get really Really tedious, and it’s obviously not a play pattern Blizz wants to allow.
I will now be shelving the DH for raids. Absolutely dismal damage in raid compared to almost all classes except for feral drood.
Even had people during the raid asking what the hell happened to the devourer damage.. especially after the m0 build up was awesome.

It’s not the damage. It’s the profile.
As I’ve said ad eternum ever since this spec got announced, a ramp spec with punishment through the roof, massive uptime requirement and 25y is very hard to perform well in an environment with mechanics.
Idk man. Finally got around to clearing normal last night. Top damage on several fights, top 3 on almost every fight. 2nd on crown of the cosmos, just barely edged out by a SPriest. Got royally cucked by knockbacks interrupting CS a few times, esp on H Vorascious, but those are super broadcast, so it’s mostly a skill issue.
On top of that the insane mobility the spec brings makes most of the raid mechanics hilariously trivial. I can be anywhere in the arena instantly, and I can greed for extra damage completely unpunished, constantly.
Timing meta around intermissions on dragons and crown is slightly annoying, but again, skill issue on my part.
I can’t imagine any RL turning down a devourer because of lack of damage. We’re still in a very solid spot there. Any DPS we lose from awkward meta timings is more than made up by our basically 100% active time.
