I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. The aesthetics are on point but the gameplay is fundamentally flawed. I have a feeling that it will go through some serious growing pains this expansion.
Im not gonna lie i was deadset on 80-90 as devourer but you basically have one button when questing. What are you gonna do? use meta and build up souls to cast CS? you just cant. its not even fun questing because you consume spam the whole time
they should add throw glaive into the rotation make it a void spell that carves more souls. I don’t care if they nerf void form a bit to compensate just make it fun to play. Right now in mythics im getting rinsed by the bear tank every other pull and really only shine on bosses that dont interrupt my burst windows. I think there will be a lot less complaints when trash packs are living longer and people have tier. But the best preseason build right now not even using the midnight talents is just poor design, its embarrassing really
Has pretty good on demand aoe when you’re playing the melee weave build and void scarred.
Survivability is great in meta.
Collapsing star is revolved around Annihilator, which is revolving around longer fights.
I mean I can get this out of anything here, but considering that as people get better gear & stats, devourer will have an incredible amount of meta uptime, this is a coinflip. You suck it up for a mid mechanic for an insane amount of burst windows.
While guardian is definently overtuned this is 100% just a skill issue.
I’d say scaling made things worse. I got some gear, did my first prey on normal (a couple WQs too) and it felt better. I have yet to test it on hard mode, though.
Need more utility and defenses. The spec is in dire need of its own toolkit.
It’s a dummy spec, made to fight a dummy that stands still to test DPS.
Have to disagree, I think the spec is insanely fun. Been levelling as devourer and having a great time.
I do think it feels squishy (this is also partly due to item scaling) but I think this adds to the fun - you can’t just sit there and cast, you have to kite, use your cc and defensives and plan around getting health back from sucking up orbs. Inside voidform, the burst is awesome - so use the ramp up time to gather mobs, then mow them down with VF. Overall it feels very flashy and exciting.
I will say I noticed a great improvement after switching to void-scarred and taking the melee talents, and the gluttony talent for more frequent void form. I’ll also say that yes, in solo content, I very rarely cast collapsing star, but the spec still feels fleshed out without it.
Annihilator seems cool on target dummies and I’m excited to take it into m+ at max level (and hopefully get to cast CS more), but admit it’s a little rough in open world, at least while levelling. Anyway, YMMV - not every spec has to be for everyone, and I see the things that might turn some folks away from this one. But I love devourer and have found myself thinking over and over that it’s extremely WELL designed.
Also annihilator in higher content has more self healing.
The thing about DDH that’s really weird is your resource generation scales off the number of individual hits you do. It doesn’t matter what they are, it doesn’t matter how hard they hit. It just matters how many.
Void meteors generate so many souls in AoE it’s kinda wild. In big pulls your first collapsing star vray reap combo will literally generate enough souls to star again immediately, and ofc also heal you for 30% of your hp.
The apex talent should have been reversed… Give us the free CS at level 81 instead of 90. We shouldnt be playing and leveling and never even consider using CS or even choosing to spec out of it.
