So its not just me. See even my seal swap paladins I’ve spammed since 2019 and 2024 get to press the hammer to slap on righteous seal every few seconds. Its not much….but its not autoattack lol
The pacing feels off on live for sure. It felt better on Beta with the extra talents selected. It still cranks imo though. While taking forever to build up to beam or meta, once you get into those the damage starts coming on well. Consume is the most aggravating part of the spec right now. Knocking half a second off the cast time at least would make it feel less awkward. At least we can move while casting so it gives us something to do rounding up frags while waiting for the cast to go off.
The class is basically not functional without enough haste at endgame. If you are leveling a Devourer it’s so miserable that you might as well use a boost on it.
Sounds like the same criticism Havoc used to get but honestly it was a tad bit more complicated than just press 3 buttons.
Oh yeah, I can imagine without the stats to support it, the spec would be rough to try and level.
the hungering slash combo makes it more bearable but it takes so long to get to those talents, and with the hunt on the last row it just.. ugh
devourer sucks
and the whole “have fun finding int swords/axes/warglaives” if you aren’t doing legion or later content and that there’s no int heirloom weapon for them available now
At least Havoc felt engaging to play. Devourer feels so flat and boring to play until you are max level with haste gear. There was so much feedback about this on the beta forums and they did literally nothing. Like, why can I talent into Void Meta before level 20 if I can’t use it until I get Meta at level 20? Why is it even a talent when the entire spec is designed around Void Meta uptime? Why is Collapsing Star a talent when it is required for the spec to function? There are so many things with this class that make NO SENSE.
People are way too overdramatic on the forums. From what I’ve seen lots of people are liking it, if you think it’s too simple and boring maybe it’s not for you? But they should be ashamed because you don’t find their design fun? Man calm down.
The simple loop of Devourer I think is fine, specifically because it was designed to have it’s very simple loop. It doesn’t need to just be a ranged Havoc, I think that would make it far too hectic.
It’s big issue is the extremely long ramp up time and how, until 12.0.1, CS can be completely wiffed if the target dies before the cast goes off, wasting the souls required to use it.
I ran it in heroics to get it tested, and I think I casted at most 3 CSs before the final boss. Outside of that it was Consume Spam > Eye Beams > Eradicate > Repeat. Which didn’t feel too bad but was certainly lacking the wow factor since CS was so unreliable.
