I say this as more than just “oh its alpha man, things will change”.
Devourer has some cool things going on, but it feels very weird… I get the idea, the void is this all consuming devouring force that wants to eat (the very thing blizzard said about the void beings in midnight), so you devour souls, get powerful, become a demon and do void stuff.
now, let’s talk about execution vs the idea… you stay away casting ripping off soul fragments of your target for your build up, do you know whats weird about it? “hey don’t mind me, you have a infinite stock of soul juice in you, so let me keep draining it non stop, cause apparently thats how souls work right? oh, you’re asking why the fragments of your nature druid soul look like they are made of void energy for some reason? shut up, stop making questions!”.
Another problem of devourer is the glaives and the melee aspect… the glaives are for the most part just furniture hanging around on your back for the most part, they don’t do anything, they just exist and that raises the obvious question → why aren’t you doing anything with the glaives? maybe make void slashes in mid air to hit your oponent from range or something?
And if you pick the talents for devourer to have some melee interaction, how does that look like? you approach your target, you slap him for 1.5 seconds, and then vengefull retreat away. When blizzard spoke of the melee aspect of devourer, i was thinking it was gonna be a survival hunter in reverse, a survival hunter can do stuff from range, but eventually you have to be on your target close hitting him, its a melee spec, so devourer could have like some cool stuff that you actually engage in melee, before creating distance again and going back to the baseline.
There is more we could talk about, but for me those are the main points that bother me in devourer dh.
if i could change one thing, would be the spell animation for the ability that draws souls off the target… that animation where the character raises both hands above like its trying to lift a boulder with telekinesis, being done repetitivelly as a baseline, is just bad.
Atm scarred has interaction with throw glaive (Though really not that much).
I like your idea about void slashses. It be cool if throw glaive for Devourer threw a cosmic version of your glaives or something. Would look really cool at least. Though not sure how it would feel.
I think the best blizzard would deliver for us, is that it would look like how unholy dk slashes people at a distance with his sword, it looks like he is hitting air (personally it looks dumb lmao).
but yeah, give the blades something to do blizzard, throw glaives exist, but even outlaw pistol that materializes out of nothing has more action than the glaives
That is the issue. Because Scarred exists, it just isn’t a caster. Between Void Blade, Hungering Strike, and The hunt, it is more Red Mage than pure cater.
Devourer should use a 1h and an off-hand, there is no caster today who plays with this fantasy, they all use staff.
Hybrid gameplay should happen every 30 seconds, not every 45 seconds.
Voidblade shouldn’t be the Devourer’s starting class talent, it should be Vengeful Retreat, VB doesn’t bring anything to a caster, it’s just part of the hybrid gimmick, VR on the other hand is useful as a caster to distance off the target in general, and can be improved by adding a slow which Shift doesn’t have.
Also, Throw Glaive has no use in the spec and in general the class talents that interact with it are a waste, especially Bouncing Glaives which becomes a paid talent to reach Void Nova.
