Devoured Wader method

For better or worse, I like collecting my own things, not just buying them off the AH.

I was always too busy with other things (raid, etc) in SL to get the Devoured Wader since the event it comes from, the Swelling Tear, wasn’t active enough to bother.

I’m coming back to this and the issue is there are 4-5 spawn points for the Swelling Tear, they’re all VERY spread out in Bastion.

Can anyone recommend a best-method to hunt this? Do you just camp one spot, leave an alt there and check once an hour, etc? Do you make one lap, once an hour? Is there a way to make it spawn? Because the event isn’t announced in all of Bastion, right? If I’m at one spawn point, and it spawns at another… I won’t even know, right?

Anything like that which would help. Thanks.

I haven’t found this particular pet, but the way I did this for other pets that spawn in only select areas (for instance the Ravenous Slimes in Nazjatar that you feed for five days, then they produce a cocoon that gives you a Slimy Pet) is that I use TomTom and create a macro that will mark all these spots on the map.

This is how my macro looks for the Ravenous Slimes in Nazjatar:

/way 32.92 39.77 Ravenous Slime 1
/way 45.71 24.09 Ravenous Slime 2
/way 71.71 25.69 Ravenous Slime 3
/way 55.13 48.77 Ravenous Slime 4

Then I would use the macro to mark my map and fly (and I pray you have flying in Shadowlands) to each location and see if I can the find the pet I want.

If there is any other Battle Pet or 1-level critter in that spot, get rid of it. Either capture it, if it’s a pet you want, or just kill it. You don’t want any placeholders occupying the Devoured Wader’s spawn points.

Then once you go through all the spots, disposing of any placeholders, use your macro and check out the spots again. And keep on doing this until you get bored with it. Then, if you still haven’t found it. Go back some other time and try it again.

Be patient. You might be repeating this process for days.

Like you, I also prefer to try get things myself. I’m farming this on a Kyrian, as well as the larion pouncer. I start at the Kyrian base and fly to the northern spawn, then just zig-zag south to the rest until I find a tear. Last point being at the central town, at which I use the transport network back to base.

Once a day only, I’m trying for several sucky drop-rate pets/mounts and can’t hang around or else I’ll die of boredom/burnout.

I got lucky in that I have everything else but the Wader.

I parked an alt at the Northern spawn and, just randomly checking it a various times during the day, I actually happened to catch a Tear. But no Wader.

Do you have any idea about timing? Everything about this is terrible. Like… super low spawn rate, from multiple locations widely spread apart, and then the reward is a super low drop rate. RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG. I can’t stand this type of design.
