By now, i believe everyone should have been through Bastion, but (SPOILER) if you havent. Is there a piece of story or questing im missing…towards the end of the Kyrian questline you see Devos as a Paragon, not much dialogue or anything else. You also see Uther sporadically right before the attack from Maldraxxus…then…you dont see her again until shes the last boss of a dungeon. I really thought we would see that transition in game…but nothing…afterlives sees devos complaining about the maw power being used on a mortal…then decides to join forces with the maw? This doesnt make any sense…What am i missing?
No, I’m right there with you. I feel like I’m missing something and the jump makes no sense at the moment. Maybe it will get explained later, but I’m a little disappointed in the jarring story telling with these characters in particular.
I think it’s because they didn’t want to lock Spires of Ascension until the right moment in the Kyrian Questline was available. Kinda like how the Ember Court guest list has you inviting Ascended Kleia before she even became Ascended in the Kyrian questline. Due to the renown cap, the story is a bit muddled.
Apparently the transition took place during the Kyrian covenant campaign, but I was also expecting to see it while leveling up.
And for the people who aren’t in said Covenant we don’t see any of it so it really makes no sense. Why are we killing this person? Loot… ok.
You see the story in the Kyrian covenant quest line. I think a couple of the dungeons are going to be explained this way.
Spoilers
In the campaign you see a couple Kyrian ascend (get their wings) and that’s when Devos reveals she’s the villain and attacks the Order Hal…Covenant Sanctum. Then you’re tasked on going to the dungeon and killing her.
Its ashame since I thought the afterlives cinematic was amazing, so I was looking forward to that, thinking we would maybe join with devos and uther against some corruption with the archon, similar to denathrius. Its a bummer that some story is locked in the covenant stuff, maybe i will get to that in a year or so =p
Yes this is my main complaint about the dungeons. Very limited information as to why we’re killing certain bosses. I really, really was hoping the uther + devos thing would be a lot more fleshed out (by now, and not 10 weeks later after the dungeons are irrelevant except for high M+).
Ya, I’m kinda annoyed I’m going to have to play all four campaigns to see the whole story. That or watch some Youtube vids.
Like there are things littered around that I would LOVE some info on. I was doing a World Quest in Mal yesterday and they mention Kel’Thezad. I’m like, excuse me what now?
Supposedly at some point Necrolords players are going to be homies with Kel’Thezad.
The Kyrian covenant covers this more as part of their actual campaign. Devos spearheads an attack against Elysian Hold with Uther and her forsworn. And then you get a quest to go into Spires and take her out. Non-Kyrian players will not actually see the transition, or her attack on Elysian Hold, and simply wind up in Spires as a means of going through with their normal routine through dungeons.
One of the problems involving this line of storytelling is that every covenant has their own story and their own shenanigans which means going through one covenant’s questline and only one will deny someone 75% of the entire narrative going on through SL.
Now that would be interesting, the quest made it sound like he was the bad guy.
the problem for me, is right before the attack on temple of courage, all the paragons up top, and there is Devos, still not yet hostile.
Just how obvious could the Devs make it, and I still can’t target her. Her Hand, and Uther both hostile, and I still can’t target her.
I’m more curious about Venthyr’s storyline after the raid…
lmao Blizzard spoiled their own stories and broke the narrative in week one. I’m just looking at the humor of the situation and thinking MAYBE they should have held off on those capstone dungeons for a mythic intro like Siege of Boralus and Mechagon.
He starts out as part of the plot between Maldraxxus and Revendreth but not sure where it goes from there.
I was honestly stunned as how quickly the Devos betrayal occurred.
The other two covenant quests I’ve done, Venthyr and Night Fae, didn’t even hint at the plot line that leads to the second zone dungeon (Sanguine Depths and De Other Side), but Kyrian blew its load almost immediately with the Spires of Ascension tie in.
I think that’s because the long haul of the Kyrian story is going to be Uther and Arthas. The fact the Uther is basically acting like pre-Lich King Arthas means we’re going to have a “moment” when someone calls him out on it and we’re probably headed to the Maw to find Arthas and bring him to Revendreth. That’s my tinfoil hat theory.
She was one of the best characters they created and they killed her off unceremoniously in a 5-man at the start of the xpac. It’s a shame.
That’s kind of silly. It’s just like what they did in BFA, when the alliance had absolutely no idea why they were going into Uldir or what was going on. Very disjointed storytelling.
