Devoker PvP Question

Hey there, fellow dragons. I’ve been playing my Devoker alt in pvp a lot recently. I really enjoy the class overall, but I have the worst time with rogues. Unless I have nullifying shroud up, I pretty much get chain stunned and obliterated due to my inability to activate obsidian scales and/or renewing blaze.

Do you have any advice on dealing with rogues as a Devoker? Or is it simply a matter of not being caught with nullifying shroud on CD?

Nullifying Shroud vs rogues is tricky, you have to be in combat before using it or else they will just triple sap it off.

Main thing is hitting a CD immediately after trinket if they are trying to kill you. Otherwise try and kill them before they kill you. If it is assassination just save cauterize for deathmark and laugh but for sub I have less experience with.

The typical rogue player is pretty predictable. Try to watch for patterns and sometimes you can surprise them.

Yeah, rogues are just tough, devoker just doesn’t have enough defensives to deal with them really well. Even hovering to get away doesn’t really work because they have shadowstep, sprint, hook, can throw on magic immunity, etc.

This is why I don’t guard bases as a devoker, it’s just too easy to be caught in a CC death chain. My recommendation is generally stick close to a healer / team fight. You offer a lot more with AoE burst anyways in a group fight than trying to do objectives solo.

I will say though it is wonderful when a rogue grabs a flag or orb and I can just nuke them down in a couple seconds and they basically can’t do anything about it.

Yeah, I think that’s where I get into trouble. I main monk and I can usually eat rogues alive with my burst and turbo fists (which lets me parry all of their attacks), so I’m generally fine with defending points with this character. I like evoker because it has a very familiar feel (i.e. fast moving, ton of mobility, etc.) but it’s also extremely different… I guess I’ll chalk that up to another difference in playstyle.

Yup, lack of defensives and the need to actually channel / cast to do damage vs monk who can’t be interrupted or silenced for the most part, makes Evoker especially weak vs rogues.

Well, it is what it is I guess. I appreciate your advice, though. I’ll keep it in mind.

If your healer buddy gets sapped you gotta try and pre-wall right away on the rogue opener. save trinket for trinket time stop. You can even pre time stop yourself if you see the rogue is about to open. Against assassination use your cauterizing flame to dispel all bleeds and poisons… lastly use the pvp talent to immune yourself from slows and roots with hover. Kite them out of line of sight of their own healers or generally in bad positions

Time stop is mega strong when used right

Rogues are quite predictable but yeah, they are still rough to deal with. But every class has counters
