You can appeal a name change to a GM. And it takes multiple reports to get a name change, so it’s not just one stick in the mud reporting and then boom name change.
These are all things that you could use to appeal the name change if it happens.
In Vanilla, I knew a gnome RPer who RPed his character as a gnome created Automaton named “Manbot”. He was reported multiple times, they forced a name change, he appealed and explained his character and got it reversed.
Right now we are absolutely inundated with people who have names that range from “passable but still not really RPish” to full on awful. We have to report ALL of them right now or we’d lose the server to Non-Rpers.
In a couple weeks, a month, we’ll be less quick to report every name we see and people on the bubble won’t have to worry about their names. But right now, we’re just trying to keep our server an actual RP server and unfortunately, that means that someone like you who IS an RPer but doesn’t have “a generic fantasy name” MIGHT get swept up in that effort.
Personally, I am only reporting the truly awful names. And there’s so many of THOSE I can barely keep up.
Names which are not “generic fantasy names” but are nicknames or adjectives but still sort of “fit”…those I let slide because those people are clearly making SOME sort of effort to follow the rules even if not by the letter.
